Nose runny, stinging eyes and raspy throat especially after eating - always feeling ‘phlemy’

I have been experiencing this a lot over the last few years and it seems to be getting worse.

I often have stinging eyes (not watery just as though I’ve been in a smoky environment) and my nose is always a bit runny. I don’t have to blow it or wipe it often but it always feels a bit ‘drippy’!

I often experience a sore tongue too. Years ago, I was told I have geographical tongue but this is more like I’ve burnt my tongue. I also often feel like I have a raspy and phlegmy throat.

And I have no idea if this is connected but I have suffered from IBS for several decades (have had endless tests for this, no coeliac or anything like that). I follow a special low fodmap diet and avoid wheat, gluten, dairy and several other foods which I believe upset me.

I also have tinnitus and ‘wet’ ear wax (not sure if wet or dry earwax is the norm?) and feel as though my ears are blocked, I’ll yawn but it doesn’t unblock the feeling.

My GP never takes this nasal/throat/tongue thing seriously but it gets on my nerves because it feels like I’ve got a cold coming on.

What could this be? A sinus issue? Allergies of some kind?

If my GP isn’t bothered where on earth do I go to find out what it could be and if I can rid myself of this mucus/phlegmy feeling?

Look up silent reflux, esp Dr Aviv and Dr Koufman , typical symptoms I’m afraid, and GP should definitely take it seriously (although many are ignorant of these symptoms).

Yep, acid reflux.

Could it be rhinitis? My symptoms of that sounds similar to lots of yours. Have you tried any meds for allergies? Maybe speak to a pharmacist about it, you can buy fexofenadine in a low dose over the counter now, so maybe worth a try.

Silent reflux, misdiagnosed as a thousand other things

You might be unlucky like me and have non allergic rhinitis and silent reflux!!!

Goatymum AudiobookListener bellac11 I suppose that makes sense as I do have upper gut issues too but my gastro said it was simply functional dyspepsia
bellac11 having both does not sound like fun 😢

AgathaX I haven’t tried any meds for that kind of thing, I’ll look into that.

It does make sense! So many people have silent reflux/lpr and don’t know about it. Have a Google.
