How to take naproxen

I mean I know you take it with food but just wondering...

Are you meant to take it for a few days to actually deal with/heal the cause of the inflammation, or just take it as a painkiller and once the pain stops that's that?

Days.

Have you also been prescribed lansoprazole or omeprazole to protect your stomach? I do have a permanent prescription but only take it for a couple of weeks at a time maximum because lansoprazole can cause absorption issues for iron, b12 etc.

No I haven't, just not to take on empty stomach.

In my experience it takes a couple of days to reach maximum efficiency. I took it for back pain and thought it wasn't working initially

It actually worked really quickly (after years of suffering hip pain and not bothering to do much about it) which is why I wasn't sure if I needed to continue.

Please speak to your GP about being prescribed a stomach liner in addition to taking it with a meal. You get the best effects after a few days of taking but it is lethal stuff and can ruin your stomach

I take Naproxen twice a day. It works but you must take it with omeprazole or you'll likely end up with a very nasty ulcer.

Does it have to be omeprazole from the doctor or will the nexium stuff off the shelf be fine? I have some of that in the cupboard. Do I take them together or the omeprazole hours beforehand?

I take it omeprazole at the same time if I've just eaten. If not I take it an hour beforehand. I wouldn't risk over the counter stuff. If you get an erosion from the Naproxen you won't be able to take it again.

Omeprazole is available over the counter but might not be required dose, but you could take it and talk to GP other time.
