How bad a cold before staying off school?

DD (10) has yet another cold, she says her throat is sore and her ear is sore when she swallows (but throat isn't red when I looked), she can't taste food but is eating and her nose is really blocked. Seems a bit tired but ok in herself.

School or not?

I am hopeless at deciding so thought would had decision over to mumsnet!

I would say - if she could learn something without any discomfort then send her. If she's just going to be a snotty wreck, feeling rough, don't.

I would not have sent her to school. I tend to think that keeping them home for one day can prevent the cold from developing further and also means they won't pass it on to others. Mine are never really ill so its almost a bit of a novelty for me to keep them at home.

I would probably give her a dose of paracetamol and send her in.

Well, have kept her home. She normally gets a lift with a teacher to school so I asked the teacher's advice and she said keep her home so I have. Have sent her back to bed though so any dreams of sitting on the pc all day have been shattered lol
