Extreme Right Flank Pain

GassyGirl · 26/11/2023 00:39

I've been horrifically constipated for days with mild right flank pain that comes and goes.

I finally had a bowel movement this morning and afterwards I had sudden, sharp, extreme pain from my right flank area, but it was also radiating down my back and up my right side. It was awful, I was actually crying into my pillow. I threw up from the pain. This level of pain last for about 20minutes.

I grabbed my TENS Machine as couldn't think of anything else. Had it on full. Pain started to subside after 20mins gradually. It's gone now.

Any ideas? Been back and forth with flank pain and constipation for weeks.

See a doctor?

It could be anything from a kidney stone to cancer. No one on here can give you a diagnosis.

HeathrowQuestion · 26/11/2023 00:41

Get yourself to an out of hours GP appointment or A&E if it recurs, you poor thing! Pain that makes you vomit is not to be trifled with.

ScaredSceptic · 26/11/2023 01:42

What do you mean by flank? Just confused as you also mention pain on your right side, but I'm presuming that's what you also mean by your right flank?

StBrides · 26/11/2023 01:51

Please don't panic it's cancer!

Probably constipation shifting but have a chat with a doctor for assurance.

lesdeluges · 26/11/2023 02:29

Possibly diverticulitis. Have a look at the symptoms.

CreationNat1on · 26/11/2023 02:34

Kidney stone..... Maybe?

silvershark22 · 26/11/2023 02:36

Do you have any pain or blood when you wee?

GassyGirl · 26/11/2023 09:17

@QuestionableMouse I've been back and forth to GP who have told me it's constipation. All she did was a rumble of my belly and a finger up my backside. I just think the pain is too severe for constipation though. What further tests should I be asking for?

@ScaredSceptic it's radiating pain, so right side down to flank. Hard to pinpoint sometimes but that general area.

@silvershark22 no pain or blood when I wee but it stinks of sugar puff cereal (specific, I know) and is strong even if I drink a lot of water.

Please contact NHS 111 for an out of hours GP review, or attend a walk in centre. If the pain is worsening while you wait got NHS 111 to get back to you please attend a&e. There are lots of causes of abdo pain but your level of pain causing you to cry and then vomit would indicate that you need checking over by a doctor at the very least. Hope you feel better soon x

silvershark22 · 26/11/2023 11:02

How are you feeling now? Has anyone either dipped a urine sample and or tested a urine sample sample? Seems there is something going on with kidneys.

GassyGirl · 26/11/2023 11:28

I'm feeling alright, just very bloated and uncomfortable today @silvershark22. I was a bit queasy earlier but that's passed thankfully.

No, I'll request this. Phoning GP Monday.

I'm not any sort of medic but in your shoes I'd be pushing for a scan/unltrsound, urine dip/culture and maybe a colonoscopy.

I'm guessing you're a woman? Ovarian pain can present in really odd ways but it often gets overlooked!

Brightredtulips · 27/11/2023 21:25

Ovarian cyst?

QuestionableMouse · 27/11/2023 21:25

Also have they tested your for diabetes and checked your liver is okay? Sweet smelling wee is a classic sign for both!

(unless you're doing very low carb?)

GassyGirl · 27/11/2023 22:05

No @QuestionableMouse no tests for diabetes or liver issues. I'll ask!

Not following a low carb diet either.

Could be ovarian cyst as I have endo. Or bowel endo.

Honestly I wouldn't hesitate to head to A&E if it gets like it was in the op! They have immediate access to a lot more diagnostic stuff than your GP and you're more likely to get an answer!
