Fit test 24 so scared

Elselena31 · 25/11/2023 09:42

Hi all. I had my second c section 11 weeks ago, I was in hospital 3 weeks post partum which we think was a bladder infection from catheter, my urine sample showed infection and had awful stomach pain. The last few weeks my pain has come back but urine samples are normal so we done a stool fit test the dr thought it was ibs due to stress as I’ve had a rough ride and my daughter suffers with colic so a screamer last thing we thought would be this.

my symptoms are stomach pain and bloating

mucus in stool

I did suffer with what I thought was a external pile at end of pregnancy so was
bleeding red blood on tissue

since c section my stools have been a lot more frequent and softer, the urgency to go is alot more than normal as I’m usually somebody who suffers more constipation than loose stool

im only 31 with two children, my stool sample fit test came back at 24 so the dr referred me for a colonoscopy for suspected bowel cancer on a two week wait. I feel sick I can’t stop crying. Could this actually be bowel cancer. This all seems to of happened since c section

my dad died 6 years ago from bowel cancer at 51 - I honestly can’t focus I feel sick numb I don’t know how I’ll cope

It’s more likely to be UC or chron’s than bowel cancer and hormones I believe can make it worse. They refer on a 2ww to get you seen quickly x

Elselena31 · 25/11/2023 09:53

Oh really! I hope you are right. I just pray it isn’t cancer. I saw my dad die from it and my mum deal with it, don’t want my kids to watch me go through it. My brain is going crazy x

It's really unlikely but your GP is doing the right thing by getting you checked out ASAP.

IBS can cause immense stomach pain, made worse by stress too and a young colicky baby isn't going to be helping wih that. I've had bleeding when I've had a really bad bout. The last one had me admitted with suspected appendicitis. After a CT scan and colonoscopy it was "just" IBS.

fuckmyuteruslining · 25/11/2023 11:47

The fit test hasn't told you anything you don't already know. You're bleeding from somewhere (could be the piles) and you've got symptoms that need checking out. There are lots of possible and benign explanations for this. What the fit test has done is bump you up the queue. Wait for non urgent colonoscopy is massive. This is a good outcome, I know it doesn't feel like it but in a few weeks you'll know what's what and have a plan.

Thank you. Made me feel better. The piles or what I thought was piles was more so at end of pregnancy so around 12/13 weeks ago I assumed they cleared up. I just hope it’s not cancer, just scary because of my symptoms, family history and being so young and having two kids

Maybe you have bowel polyps

When my Qfit was like that - i had bowel polyps
( they removed them- in colonoscopy may 31st )

My next colonoscopy is next week

Elselena31 · 30/11/2023 20:43

Just an update. Had my colonoscopy done today they took 5 biopsies, no growths or masses were found so apparently the biopsies were routine so they are confident it’s not cancer, but it does say on report raised profile tint ulcers/erosions were seen. No idea what that means but they didn’t seem worried and said they will get back to me with results x

My fit test was over 200. I had multiple polyps. I didn't have cancer.

Glad you've had it

I had another colonoscopy 2 days ago - more polyps removed - awaiting biopsies

Thankfully the Gastroscopy was ok

Different types of polyps unfortunately give higher chances of cancer in future tho

Elselena31 · 30/11/2023 20:58

Hope the results are good for you. No idea what my diagnosis is, they seemed extremely chilled with my report but I’m doing my own research and wondering if it’s UC which doesn’t sound fun!

Hi,

Sorry to hear you lost your dad to bowel cancer. There is no wonder you're feeling the way you are. Please be reassured that it's very highly unlikely that you have bowel cancer. A positive FIT puts you in the criteria for having a diagnostic colonoscopy. A positive FIT is actually more common than you think - haemorrhoids being the main culprit. There are other things more likely than bowel cancer too; large vascular polyp/s, diverticula, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's. Also be aware that you can decline and opt for an alternative procedure (CT colon) which isn't as invasive but would pick up anything in your bowel that shouldn't be there. However, a colonoscopy is the gold standard allowing optimal views of the colon mucosa and to take biopsies if required. Best of luck x

PigsinBlankets22 · 01/12/2023 00:01

Sorry, I've just seen your update re you've already had your colonoscopy. Glad all went well. Ulcers/erosions sounds like ulcerative colitis but the biopsies will confirm x

Elselena31 · 01/12/2023 03:59

So thankful it’s not cancer but ulcerative colitis doesn’t sound like a great outcome :(

Hiya, I know this is old but how are you now? I’ve been having stomach pain on left side and had a bit of blood in my poo last week so had a FIT test and it’s come back as 10ug, so got to go under the 2 week wait! I have a two year old and can’t look at him without crying I feel so scared of cancer! I’ve asked for a private referral so it’s quicker I hope but got to wait for the GP to do the letter

Elselena31 · 03/04/2024 19:15

I was completely fine! My colonoscopy showed ulcers and they took biopsy’s so there was a concern I could have a bowel disease but everything came back completely normal and I was discharged. Good luck I am sure you will get the same outcome! X

My husband had a high result, they found some polyps which removed and all is well. Try not to panic.

Mamabear1122222 · 29/01/2025 21:21

Hi sorry I know this is an old comment but how are you doing after your colonoscopy? I had a fit result of 24 after some change in bowel habits & stomach pain lower right side I’m absolutely spiralling!! I have a toddler too & it’s breaking my heart

worldwidetravel2017 · 30/01/2025 07:18

Just my opinion
But with a score of 24 -
It may be bleeding from benign polyps
Or various other things

My score was similar and was not cancer

I know its,hard
But try not to worry too much
