Root canal... Freaking out!

Hi all. God, what a bloody month. Cracked a tooth, was told I need a root canal. Had the first part which made the pain even worse... Was told I had an infection and 5 days of amoxicillin which did sweet f all. Now had the root canal done (about 6 days ago) and much better however tenderness when biting or clenching my teeth together and cut/inflamed gums!! Paid for an emerg dental appt who said not too bad maybe a slight infection!!! (Didn't X ray) and prescribed 5 days of metronidazole.

Basically I guess I'm just asking is tenderness on biting teeth together almost a week after a complete root canal normal?

I go on holiday to Malta on Sunday and freaking the f out!

Any experiences welcome!

Thank you x

Mine was tender for several weeks after root canal. The dentist told me it shouldn't be sore as there was no root left but it definately felt sore to me!

Swish your mouth with colloidal silver. It helped cure infection after I had a dental implant

Mine was absolutely fine after good luck

Mine felt tender for a few weeks afterwards. It isn't surprising I guess, when you consider you have just had the nerve and blood supply ripped out of your tooth with a file, the canal flushed with bleach, then the space filled. It is quite a traumatic act I feel.

I've had three RCs. One gave immediate relief from all pain, one bothered me for several weeks, one was somewhere between the two. The one that bothered me for the longest was the one that I also had antibiotics for. Your gums and mouth in general could be sore from all the ferreting about. Certainly the pain should be diminishing with time, and should not be of a level that paracetamol does not help.

So it will be a week tomorrow since the root canal and although like 75% better I am having twinges that resembles the old tooth ache. Finish the metronidazole on Sunday and fly on Monday.

Filled with anxiety. The emerg dentist that I saw yesterday told me to enjoy my holiday and didn't seem arsed but also didn't take any X rays. Easy for him to say!

Do I just suck it up, hope for the best and go on holiday or do I pay private and try and get an extraction on Friday or Saturday?

Opinions welcome! I know I sound riddled with panic... That's because I'm in fear it's going to get worse whilst on holiday!

I would certainly not want to fly away on holiday 24-48h after an extraction! Far more potential to spoil your holiday. Plus you might be removing a tooth un-necessarily.
