So I find a NHS dentist (I am very grateful) but all be does is look at me teeth and I am in and out in 5 minutues. What does your do? My old one before he went private used to do a scale and polish, scrape the tarter away etc. What can I expect?

A scale and polish is extra and costs £50 at mine! they will do xrays and fillings etc

Mine does the scraping and polishing as part of the check up.

I have never had an NHS dentist do that. I have a private dentist now, and they dont do it either, I see the dental hygienist for that.

you need to specify when you make the appointment that you want a scale and polish and you will have to pay.

Well next time I will ask...this time I was so sure I owould need a billion fillings!

my private dentist is very quick too. gives teeth and gums marks out of 5 (I think!) and then I nip through to the hygienist who I see 3 monthly for full on scrape and polish.
