MRI query - can anyone help?

I had MRI scans on my arm the other day (three scans to cover the whole arm). I was told at the start it would take 45 mins in total - 15 mins for each scan - but it actually took 1 hour 45 mins.

It was constant. No breaks, other than a quick change of position for the second and third scans.

Why did it take an hour longer than the norm? They said I’d stayed nice and still throughout, else I’d have thought it was that.

Maybe they found something they wanted to take a closer look at? Maybe the radiologist had a look at the pictures so far, and wanted some more views? I once went for a half hour cardiac MRI, and was in there over an hour. Which was awful as for most of it I had to breathe in/out according to the timing they gave me. But it was because they saw something they weren't expecting, and decided to make sure they definitely got all the images they needed. Which saved me having to trek back for a repeat scan.

Thanks @nocoolnamesleft It definitely is better to get it all done in one go and they were so lovely, but it just felt odd that it took an hour longer than it should have done. I was wondering if maybe I wasn’t as still as I thought, but they did say I’d been still. I just hate taking up people’s time.

I hope all’s now well for you.

It depends if they are using any specific imaging techniques either didn't allow for that in telling you the standard time or added extra images in on the day.
Well done they are noisy and that sounds long!

Thanks @overwhelmed2023 I hadn’t realised it had taken so long until I was on my way out. In a weird way it was nice to have a break! They said well done, it had been a long one as I got up from the machine but it didn’t occur to me to ask what they meant.
