Suspected sarcoma

I found a hard lump on my lower shin bone around 7 weeks ago it was small and painless at first. It started to grow now being 3cm, had some swelling and felt tender so I went to my gp. I've since had an x ray, bloods and an ultrasound yesterday. My doctor rang me this morning and said he's had to refer me to the sarcoma specialist and I'll need to go for an MRI so they can get a diagnosis of what it is. I've been out of my mind with worry and anxiety. I'm 26 and have 2 girls 5 and 2. I'm just thinking the worst and would like some reassurance or if anyone has been through something similar. Thank-you

I haven't had this experience but a family member has and is now thankfully OK. The BCRT (Bone Cancer Research Trust) were and are fantastic. Give them a call 💐

ShellBell33 · 31/12/2023 22:53

How is it all going for you ?

Paigey97 · 01/01/2024 02:27

I had my MRI on December 2nd. I have an appointment on the 2nd January with the consultant I'm so nervous and praying it's not bad news.

Fingers crossed for you @Paigey97 - hope it’s better news than you’re expecting 💐

DyslexicPoster · 01/01/2024 03:55

Fingers crossed

@Paigey97
Not long to wait

I know you're frightened but my experience of cancer is how fast the NHS moves
These time frames would be reassuring me

SarcomaUK are a great charity, you can call them for a chat if you need to talk to someone. They were fantastic with me when I had to have surgery for my GIST two years ago

Paigey97 · 01/01/2024 15:14

Thank-you everyone. I will hopefully post an update tomorrow after my appointment just need to try and be positive which is easier said than done unfortunately.

Just wishing you the best of luck. Fingers crossed.

Another one here to point you to the BCRT - Bone Cancer Research Trust. Give them a call tomorrow. They'll talk you through the next steps and can answer all your questions. Best charity there is.

I've just had surgery on a chondrosarcoma in the base of my skull - worst possible location - and I'm here to tell you about it. This is a horrid situation - but it's not the end. You're here right now, with your children. You'll just have to make space for a lot of medical appointments in the near future. You can do this.

Weepingskies · 01/01/2024 18:27

I really hope that appointment goes well tomorrow. Obviously none of us knows what news tomorrow will bring - but if it’s any comfort my daughter had an MRI a few years ago that unexpectedly showed a sarcoma and we had the results and she was an inpatient on an oncology ward within 48 hours. Six years on she’s still here and doing brilliantly - she had a rough six months but that’s all in the past now. So I think and hope that bad news for you is unlikely, but even if it is bad news there’s still hope.

KatSlatersCoat · 02/01/2024 11:47

Thinking of you 💐

Snowflakecookie1989 · 02/01/2024 14:54

Hope everything goes ok xx

Paigey97 · 02/01/2024 20:11

I had my appointment today. The consultant said that it isn't cancer or a tumor that they can see from all the scans thankfully but they don't know exactly what it is maybe some blood vessels that have got tangled and caused swelling and irritation. I have been given an open appointment letter so if anything changes in the next 12 months I can give them a call and go back in to be checked again
