GP doing blood tests for a whole range of things! What do my symptoms sound most like?

Been feeling ropey lately which normally means iron is really low so rang doctors to book a blood test but now we have to do an online thing where you have to tick symptoms and then the AI bot gives you more symptoms to choose from etc. So I did all that and was probably a bit too honest with all my ailments!

Doctor rang me and basically reeled off a whole list of things she wants to test for, I cant remember all of them but they included thyroid, coeliac disease, ovarian cancer and some others. following bloods may look into sleep apnea.

My symptoms are: (and have had for years really)

Tiredness all the time - wake up tired no matter how much sleep
Headaches alot - sometimes stabbing pains other times just underlying fuzziness
Brain fog
Constipation or diarrhoea most days some times both at the same time
pins and needles in hands and occasionally feet
cold a lot
hair falls out but I do have lots and lots of hair so not really an 'issue'
bloating
itchy skin
anaemia

just wondered if anyone has had similar symptoms and what it turned out to be?

I have/had quite a lot of those symptoms and it turned out to be hypothyroidism. Good that GP is being thorough - I hope you get some answers and feel better soon.

Upset tummy - b12

Post viral fatigue ?

Un refreshing sleep is one of things thats a CFS symptom/ thing 4 some people

Have they tested for vit d deficiency too ?

LuckyCharmz · 15/11/2023 14:13

Sounds like my peri menopause symptoms.

RuffledKestrel · 15/11/2023 14:18

I recently went to the doctors and got bloods taken for more or less the same reasons (no headaches or anemia) I'm now waiting to see a thyroid specialist.
If they are offering to do all the tests, then do them I'd say.

HP89 · 15/11/2023 14:19

Hypothyroid

Icannoteven · 15/11/2023 14:24

I had these symptoms with hypothyroidism. Actually, even when I was in the sun clinical hypothyroid phase of hashimotos. The symptoms came well before my thyroid levels were out of range.

Whatispants · 15/11/2023 14:26

Your symptoms sound loads like my B12 deficiency before I was prescribed injections, which have fortunately made a great difference. Its good you're having so many blood tests though, at least you will find out if anything needs treating.

Icannoteven · 15/11/2023 14:26

Other symptoms I had were weight gain, stumbling over my words/forgetting words due to brain fog, achy muscles, brittle, ridges nails and frequent sore throats, in case any of this sounds familiar to you?

Doteycat · 15/11/2023 14:28

How old are you?
Sounds like menopause tbh.
I had a lot of those symptoms and im in menopause.

CormorantStrikesBack · 15/11/2023 14:29

I'm 42 and have had these symptoms for quite a few years now - I just am loathe to go to the doctor unless something is hanging off and each symptom on its own is not a big thing.

I've all these symptoms and just had tests for hypothyroidism. Currently looks like hashimotos with TSH up and down in and out of range

newusern99 · 15/11/2023 14:37

Have a read up on vitamin b6 toxicity as many of your symptoms fit with this.

PosterBoy · 15/11/2023 14:47

Thyroid ... it then causes problems with low b12 low vit d etc

WithASpider · 15/11/2023 14:50

I'm due to have blood tests next week for almost the exact same symptoms. I went back to the GP because I caught covid again just as my Long Covid was starting to improve and now I'm so much worse.

GP is testing for Diabetes (unlikely) Liver ad kidney issues (also unlikely) Heart failure (VERY unlikely), Thyroid, Coeliac (been Gluten free for years so this won't show anything), Vit D.

Not Apnea either - already on a CPAP.

She says once we have a base line we can look for other causes. I suspect it's B12 or Thyroid in my case. I'm 43.

worldwidetravel2017 · 15/11/2023 18:56

Could even be a benign liver leisen

Just learnt that i have a liver leisen

Yet to see if benign

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/11/2023 18:59

B12 deficiency

Amazing how shite it makes you feel!

Cherriesarethebest · 16/11/2023 05:26

Hypothyroidism

dhworry · 16/11/2023 05:36

I'm 45 I've had most of these symptoms plus blocked sinus/face pain and scratchy throat, for around 20 years, it fluctuates to how rubbish I feel. I also get water infections and have very heavy periods.

I've had blood tests, hormone levels tested, been under urology and gynaecology. Sometimes I'm anaemic and I've had low Vit d. But drs usually just say nothing conclusive is showing so it's stress/anxiety.

I have asd and I have wondered if it's a physical reaction to over stimulation.

Wonderously · 16/11/2023 05:40

B12 and iron deficiency. Make sure they check your b12 levels before you take any thing for it.

MikeRafone · 16/11/2023 05:42

Hypothyroid symptoms include, itch skin, feeling tierd however much sleep you’ve had, hair loss, brain fog & constipation.
Hopefully the blood tests will show for sure and if your TSH is over 4 you’ll be prescribed thyroxine

Wonderously · 16/11/2023 05:52

Also you may need a celiac test. Even if you’re not deemed officially celiac, it might be an idea to give up gluten as with some people a gluten sensitivity can affect nutrient absorption (hence b12 and iron deficiency).

Ask for your blood test results so you can research the numbers. Unlike other countries, the nhs has a particularly low acceptable range for iron and b12 so you can be poorly but told you’re blood test results are healthy.

lastly you can get b12 injections in various health clinics without prescription as it’s deemed a pick me up.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 16/11/2023 06:05

I had those symptoms (and more!) and had Graves' Disease (over active thyroid - the symptoms of over- and under active are actually quite similar). My folate, ferritin and B12 were all low in range as well.

I hope you get to the bottom of it, and start to feel better soon Flowers
