Constanting feeling of going to loo - UTI?

For the last week and a half I have had a constant feeling of having to go to the loo - I have seen the GP twice and both times my dip test was clear. I don't have any burning and I can actually wait to go to the loo - I just feel like I constantly need to go but can manage to sit an hour or so at my desk with the feeling.

The second GP felt my tummy as I have on and off abdominal pain perscribed me nitrofurantoin and told me to keep them and take them if I felt I needed them. I don't know if I should - I get very anxious taking antibiotics. He wasn't clear in that go and take them it felt more like he was giving them to me for reassurance and the choice to take them.

Has anyone had similar and it turned out not to be a UTI? I feel now I am almost so consious of the feeling of having to go that I am expecting to feel it as soon as I have went and then don't know if I feel it because I am expecting to or because I have a UTI.

Its driving me bonkers .. any wisdom?!

Have you tried the cystitis relief sachets? If there's nothing showing on your urine dip and you haven't got the burning, frequency and desperate urgency I would avoid antibiotics.

How old are you? It was my first peri menopause symptom. Well, that and scalding hot feet!

If so, vagifem is the stuff you need. It restores health to the vaginal area.

I am 37! Could it be that?

I really don't want to take the antibiotics if not needed but I've had this feeling for nearly two weeks now.

It's so annoying, like I constantly have to go to the loo yet can manage without actually going to the loo. When I go it's fine.

Yes!! It was like a weird pressure almost that wasn’t painful but very aware and annoying like I could feel my bladder filling up and just could go regularly but could also hold it.

I went mad with it. In the end I tried nitrofuratoin for 7 days (not 3 because that didn’t work) and it finally went. I have been clear 2 months now. There’s a thread on UTIs here which talk about how different the symptoms are and how the dipstick test is flawed!

I came on here to say perimenopause too.

It’s the lessening of oestrogen. Topical oestrogen cream like Vagifem.
Look up vaginal atrophy.

the tests are unreliable, I was told no infection for over a year, I am in agony and I went private and DO have embedded infection

Ilovegoldies · 15/11/2023 10:02

I'm a bit older than you but I have had similar issues and as a pp said using vaginal oestrogen cream has really helped.

Bella235 · 15/11/2023 14:28

@noskilled how long did you let it go before you tried the antibiotics? Did they antibiotics have any side effects for you?

That is exactly what it feels like, I need to go but equally can hold it!

@DugInLikeAnAlabamaTick oh goodness that sounds awful. Where you not given any antibiotics for the year? Where did you go privately and how do they treat an embedded infection?

I tried 3 days straight away - helped but didn’t solve it. Then I tried it again but got given 7 days and that worked. Honestly I was close to a breakdown as it was a month. Doctors thought it wasn’t enough like a UTI to qualify and all samples negative.

im glad I did it when I did to not prolong the issue
