Hi I have been out of hospital for 3 weeks now after being treated for sepsis and struggling with a high heart rate and struggling to catch my breath with the smallest of tasks. Has anyone struggled with similar?

Sorry you are going through this.it will probably take some time to recover, post sepsis syndrome can last 12/18 months, there’s good information on the U.K. sepsis trust. I survived sepsis, pneumonia and multiple organ failure, also had a big operation to save my leg. Had 4 weeks in critical care and two on the normal ward, the district nurses came out to dress my wounds for 9 weeks. It’s normal to feel drained and weak. Just concentrate on doing the basics for yourself like washing, making a cuppa etc. Get plenty of rest and ask for an ecg to check your heart if it was affected. I know I had ecg tests for quite some time. The good news is that you should make a full recovery and your gratitude and zest for life will be heightened. There’s nothing I could do pre sepsis that I can’t do now. Be kind to yourself it’s a major illness and you are very strong to have survived it.

Hi Carolynpig I am so sorry to hear about what you went through and glad to hear how you overcame it. Mine luckily was caught before I got to that stage and I was on a normal ward and never ended up in ICU but just struggling with how I look Mostly normal on the outside but I am struggling with tiny normal tasks and feel wiped out constantly. I think my ecg was normal because it’s not something they routinely monitored other than in the ambulance and when I was in a&e but they did struggle to get my heart rate down and blood pressure up on the ward for a long time. I have been signed off work and leaning on those closest to me for support physically and mentally. I just managed to wash my hair today which feels like a huge achievement because I feel awful today. Thank you for your kind words, all the best x

You are doing great. I was wiped out too and getting washed in the morning, even just washing my teeth wore me out. It’s such early days for you, just rest and sleep when you need to. So glad you’ve got support because you may need it for a while longer. Good luck in your recovery.

I got out the hospital recently for necrotizing facitus and sepsis . It’s not just the physical side of things that i’m struggling with but the mental too. Lucky I had managed to buy presents online and food shops and i’m living with my dad until I have recovered from further surgery to reconstruct my abdomen .

It is the little things like washing your hair and having some nice food that makes you feel better. I had a nail lady come to my home and had a pedicure could you maybe do something like that ?

Illnesses are awful . If you want to chat anytime you’re welcome to drop me a message
