ooh nasty. My DD3 has had that, and me, and I felt rotten with it.

I had it as a teen, and my uncle terrified me at that time by teeling me about isolation........not needed now tho as easily treated with penecillin (if you aren't allerig that is).

one thing tho........about 4wks post infection, DD3's hands and feet peeled, and I lost skin from my hands too altho I cannot remember about my feet. look out for that.

am sure that holiday should be ok for you, but what about your family??? cannot remember how contagious it is, altho when DD3 had it, neither her sisters caught it. Mind you, they did get strep throat which IIRC is connected as it comes from the same bacteria.

damewashalot · 11/03/2008 12:47

My ds2 had it last year, penicillin fixed it very quick but wasnt allowed in school for a week or so. It sounds worse than it is swas bad pre penicillin, he wasn't really unwell just rashy and a bit 'off' with a red tongue. Hope you get a mild dose, get to the dr and get started on treatment, think they said the quicker you get on it the better.

Troutpout · 11/03/2008 12:49

Both my kids had it a few years back. You need antibiotics and the gp needs to be aware (has he/she done a swab?) It's a notifiable disease i think.
You'll bounce back quite quick once on Anti-b's. Watch out for your hands and feet peeling..(that shocked me)
Hope your kids don't catch it

Scarlet Fever is a Strep throat infection with knobs on, if you like. You'll need antibiotics of some sort but it will clear up quickly.

My sister had SF and had to be taken to an isolation hosptial on the day of the Queen's coronation in 1953. All her toys and clothes were burnt by the hospital once she was allowed home. All before my time, of course.

Yorkiegirl - how are you (apart from the SF obviously) I was thinking about you the other day when someone did a missing MNetters thread, and I said I hadn't seen you around for ages
The Doc thought I had scarlet fever a couple of weeks ago, but it turns out I had adult version of Slapped Cheek. It made me feel awful, i was red from neck to feet and all my joints were swollen. hope you feel better soon

tortoiseSHELL · 12/03/2008 11:54

Hope you're feeling better soon YG and that the girls don't get it! x

Tiggiwinkle · 12/03/2008 13:17

Did your GP advise you to go and have a urine sample checked a couple of weeks after the infection? (had to do this with both my DSs when they had scarlet fever-it is to rule out the kidney complications that can follow sf.)

My ds1 has SF when he was small. You'll have the lovely peely hands and feet in a couple of weeks.

Feel better soon YG.

Threadworm · 12/03/2008 20:19

Oh you poor thing. I didn't know it was still around. My mother had a sister who died from that in babyhood. My missing aunt.

(I'm sure it's not serious now though.)

Sorry you've been so ill YG, poor you - hope you got some help in the end. did your DDs succumb?

Is SF going round Leeds/yorkshire? I think DS1 has it and came on MN to have a dig around. Had it myself when I was a kid but it looks a bit different to how I remember it.

heaven forbid that something mildly exotic went round without one of the DSs catching it...
