Wtf is on my armpits?

Sorry, I hate to be the person asking for a diagnosis on Mumsnet and I will see a GP, but it’s the weekend and I’m panicking slightly. I just had a shower and noticed these white patches surrounded with darker skin under both of my armpits. One of them has some patches of almost flaking skin too. They’re not sore, or at least they weren’t but I’ve been poking and prodding them so they do feel tender now.

I can’t feel any lumps. Currently undergoing testing for rheumatoid arthritis, but otherwise healthy. Overweight. I have hidrandenitis which affects my groin area, so I really hope it’s not that spreading to my armpits but know it’s a common place to be affected. Any other thoughts that might put my mind at ease? Anyone had similar?

Also, yes they’re hairy but I wasn’t going to shave them just to post on here.

Looks like HS. If it’s itchy could be fungal skin infection.

sgtz · 10/11/2023 19:41

Sadly I think HS too, on closer inspection there are some little lumps which is how it started in my groin. Really quite sad as it already has such a horrible impact on my life in one area, let alone spreading to my armpits too. 😢

Switching to wild, fussy or NUUD really helps this condition in my experience.

How old are you? Get your thyroid checked.

debka · 10/11/2023 19:48

Looks like HS, I'm sorry. Try radically reducing sugar and using an anti microbial wash such as Dermol.

sgtz · 10/11/2023 19:53

@Swimeveryday thank you. I’m 31, had my thyroid checked recently amongst a host of other things and apparently normal. I use Wild. :)

@debka thank you. I’m planning on starting the Mediterranean diet shortly and will reduce sugar, I do need to lose weight so hopefully this will help…

I’m just so sad as I’ve exhausted everything I can get via the GP for this condition, and they said no point referring to derm as there’s nothing else they can do. :(

Defo push for dermatology referral. They will know more than the GP, and may be able to help you.

I thought laser hair removal was meant to be hugely helpful?

Swimeveryday · 10/11/2023 21:51

Try NUUD then it was my first one of these deodorants and it cleared up loads after 12 months I use wild and fussy now as it’s in Tesco but if I have a flare up I go back to NUUD the soap is good too, expensive though.

What is HS please?

What is HS please?

hidradenitis suppurativa

RaininSummer · 10/11/2023 22:06

I had something like that caused by one of those natural deodorants with bicarb in it. Sort of burned the skin.

Alopeciabop · 10/11/2023 22:17

(Google tells me) they’re starting to use biologics for HS. I don’t know if your go has mentioned this, or if they are even prescribing them freely for this condition yet but definitely push push push to find out whether they are and how you’d go about getting on them
