Dizziness

Around a year ago I hit my head hard on our bathroom floor after passing out (stomach bug). I had a mild concussion. About 4-5 months after that I started having dizzy spells: when lying in bed, the room seemed to spin, and then also when standing. Sporadic: came and went. I was fully checked out, including a head MRT and nothing was found. It went away. I was diagnosed a month later with early stage burn out/exhaustion and depression and signed off work (may be relevant…?).

The dizziness came back yesterday (so approx 6 months later) overnight and then first thing. Felt sick all day. I googled and tried the ‘cure’ for vertigo (lying over a pillow and slowly turning your head) which seemed to sort of work. The dizziness is however still here today: better but noticeable, especially if I pick something up off the floor. I’m still under a lot of stress (different but there) and tired but not as exhausted as before.

Any ideas? A concussion hangover still? Stress related? My period started today if that’s got anything to do with it?? I’m otherwise full of energy etc.

Possibly vasovagal syncope, if it is related to nausea/vomiting. I have suffered with this for a long time and it seems to be getting worse with age..possibly related to perimenopause.

Vertigo symptoms from low blood pressure maybe? Make sure you stay well hydrated, get up slowly in the morning, and even when you feel better later in the day don't make sudden head movements/bending. I've never had a head injury but suffer vertigo usually when my blood pressure and iron levels are low - so worse during my period. Best check with your GP though.

Thanks both. It’s definitely better than a few days ago but still there every so often. For any other ideas I’d be grateful..

This sounds really random but I was really dizzy, thought it was my neck but my chiropractor diagnosed TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint syndrome), she treated it by sticking her finger in my mouth and pushing down on a specific spot, hurt like anything but it worked. maybe worth googling because there are other symptoms.

One if bigger symptoms of anxiety is dizziness. Sounds like work and stress is giving you anxiety.

Just bumping this again. I've seen an osteopath now a few times which has helped a bit but not as much I'd hope. Am trying to reduce my anxiety and look after myself. The dizziness is still there though: Might go away for a few days but then it returns.

Any other ideas?

Are you eating enough salt? If you don't have high blood pressure, then I would try and eat more salt and see if it helps.

I had a nasty concussion and had Post Concussion Syndrome - did anyone speak to you about that?

Cuptowelmat · 07/12/2023 08:08

Will try that!

No: never heard of it. What is it and does it ever go away…?

Mine carried on for months and months but did eventually go away!

My head injury was Xmas 2018 and I think it took till about 2020 to stop having odd symptoms

I swear I had some form of brain damage tbh!

I suffered very bad concussion after a horse riding accident. I still have dizziness, part of it is Benign Positional Vertigo, I think the blow to the head hit my inner ear crystals out of whack. I've been to a physiotherapist, who specialises in the Epley maneuver a few times and it has helped, although not fixed it permanently.
