I know kidneys are always slightly different sizes. Have you googled the jargon?

bookworm1982 · 10/11/2023 20:17

Yes, the two different sizes is ok, and they are a little smaller than they should be, but not massively smaller. Just the grade 1 thing I don't understand and Google doesn't tell me much (might be a good thing! ) xx

Why did you get your kidney’s scanned? Have their been any issues?

My kidney function GFR is a bit low (55 mls/min) but my ultrasound was normal (wasn’t given any numbers). Waiting for a referral.

My egfr is 86, so I do have very mild kidney disease which they are not concerned about, however I pushed for a scan as I've been peeing a lot. All blood tests are currently normal, no diabetes etc x

How much do you drink and what type of fluid?
Often see people complaining of peeing a lot when they drink 6 cups of coffee a day or drink 3 litres of water.

Once diabetes is ruled out, it is often over drinking or bladder stimulants that cause excessive peeing.

I don't drink enough water, I'm trying to increase this though but I just wee even more! Maybe caffeine has something to do with it, I'm going to start caffeine free. I also wonder if I pee a lot as I have a endometriosis on my bladder. Xx

Would just love to know what these results mean, can't seem to get any info on them anywhere. I know of course my doctor will explain, but it's causing me a lot of worry in the meantime. Xx

Did you gp diagnose you with mild kidney disease? My egfr has been 55 for 6 months (or longer that was when I first had a blood test) but my gp hasn’t mentioned kidney disease.

Yes, over 90 is normal, between 60-90 could be CKD IF you also have protein in your urine (which I do), below 60 is CKD, apparently.

Thanks, that’s what I was reading. Strange my gp hasn’t mentioned it though. I have a referral to urology but who knows how long that will take.

OrtolanLBunting · 11/11/2023 21:09

You don't have kidney disease just from your blood test results.

I’m not saying I do have ckd, just that it is odd the gp hasn’t mentioned that is what is being investigated.

A egfr of 55ml/min is low though, hopefully the urology referral doesn’t take too long.

I know, they check the protein in your wee too, which I had done.

@bookworm1982 hope you are well. What was the outcome on this? I had an ultrasound last week which showed some inflammation not sure if you had this at all
