Is this sciatica, period related, or kidney falling out?

Health anxiety kicking off again after 2 years of being ok 😩

Due on any day now. History of ovarian cysts that had caused back ache before but not like this. That was constant.

Probably perimenopausal too (usual non-specific shite)

Only had sciatica once years ago when pg on other side, that put me on the floor.

Started last sat (week before due-ish) mild ache at bottom of back left side when I leaned on the bath to clean it. Was intermittent.

Ache still there today, feels like it's burning sometimes, not painful but enough to make me 🤨. feel it in my left bum a bit sometimes. It moves around a bit so sometimes a bit higher up, sometimes middle of lower back, but mostly lower left side.

Area doesn't hurt to press. Weeing ok, no pain or blood. No other symptoms at all, feel great otherwise apart from awful period pain (getting worse as I get older) and a questionable lack of giving a shit about anyone or anything atm 😬

What's making me worry is I don't get back ache usually with period pain.

My chair isn't great at home but I don't wfh much, maybe a couple of times a week.

So obvs I've gone straight to it being kidney related.

Spoke to GP earlier on the phone who said its just either period/hormone/peri related or mild sciatica that can flare up with no obvious reason or "as we get older we don't get away with poor posture like we did when we were 20 <tinkly laugh>" 🤔

Can sciatica be fairly mild and just occur with no history? Anyone had this?

Oh dear I think it might be my chair at home afterall 😩 amazed that sitting on a shit chair just a couple of times a week can bring this on 😔

My office chair started giving me sciatic. I took me quite a bit of time to make the link. But with me bum cheek pain is always a warning sign that I need to change my posture before full on sciatica is going to start.

Urgh, my keyboard is playing up, hopefully that near nonsense makes some sort o sense

It did thank you 😊

I hate getting older 😔 I'm mid 40's and every week I seem to be getting new twinges and niggles 😭

Your kidneys are much higher up in your body than you think they are. Think where high waisted jeans waistband sits. I've had a section removed from my kidneys and that's where they went in. If your pain is lower back/bum then it's not your kidneys.

The burning and moving around sounds like nerve pain to me, so likely sciatica. I have similar in my arm and shoulder and have been diagnosed, after MRI, with a bulging disc in the base of my neck that’s pressing on the nerve. Bring premenstrual makes you more pain sensitive.

Mine is unfortunately quite bad and has become constant, but I think if it’s mild it can go away on its own.

Megifer · 10/11/2023 13:35

Ah thank you 😊

Definitely putting it down to my chair/posture I think, and being premenstrual. I'm wfh today and have been moving about getting brews etc, can definitely feel it more when I'm sat down.

Thank you for calming me down ☺️ feel a bit silly now. It just threw me to suddenly have this weird ache for nearly a week but I guess if it was kidney related I'd have known about it by now.

Just wanted to acknowledge your message, I hope me going on worrying about my bloody kidney isn't insensitive when you have been through that. Like I say I've been ok for a long time and got my HA under control but this did knock me a bit. I hope you're doing OK now x

Oh goodness op @Megifer not insensitive at all! We all have our worries and anxieties and I wanted you to know not to worry about your kidneys as they're much higher up than you think! It wasn't until I had that done that I realised exactly how high up they were!

PieonaBarm · 10/11/2023 14:35

Oh and I'm all good now thanks for asking!
