Constant blocked nose

For a few months now I have had a long period of blocked nose

It'll be blocked 2-3 times a week, and I have to spend the whole day blowing out mucus ( sorry!) It seems to never end! As soon as I blow it all out it comes back again

I will then have a few days where it's totally fine

When I get the blocked nose, I also get pain around the sinus/gum area which I assume is from all the blowing. My nose is becoming sore too

Does anyone know what this is? It's been going on too long for a cold and I don't have allergies ( usually)

Mucus is either white or yellow

Maybe try an antihistamine and see if it helps

ConspicuouslyDifferent · 09/11/2023 22:43

we've had this from wheat or dairy reaction, but it sounds as though you might have a sinus infection, which somebody could probably test for.

Sniff an olbas oil stick?

Jewelspun · 09/11/2023 22:50

Seasonal rhinitis

spiderleggings · 09/11/2023 22:52

Thanks

Just to add I've tried

Antihistamine
Sinus rinse
Decongestant

I'm also writing a food diary but really my diet hasn't changed

I suffer with allergies, whenever it's really bad and I'm having to constantly blow my nose the mucus is always clear. Anti histamine's with nasal spray together usually works.
It's only ever yellow when I'm ill with a cold. So maybe speak to a GP about that.
A running blocked nose 2-3 times a week is a lot. Try to pin point what's causing it. Switch to non bio washing stuff, wiping down dust on top of door frames, things like that. Pets won't help if you have any.

You might need a steroid spray for chronic sinusitis.

fetchacloth · 09/11/2023 23:12

You may have nasal polyps. I had these years and had to have them surgically removed.
It's worth checking with your GP who should refer you to an ENT specialist to confirm this.

This might help?

spiderleggings · 10/11/2023 07:19

Would mould cause this? I have some on the window which I try to keep on top of but it's very damp in my room

But then again it still happens when I stay elsewhere

They might do, but I've just waited two years to see one!

I used to get a blocked nose overnight every night with sinus pain which woul wake me up and my GP diagnosed perennial rhinitis and gave me a steroid spray which worked a treat.

I know that's frustrating 😕. I had the same wait 18 years ago. After a couple of years I developed severe nosebleeds and the surgery was escalated to remove the polyps and cauterise the blood vessels.
