Umbilical Granuloma?

Lucyand2 · 11/03/2008 08:34

My DD2's belly button has been a problem since birth and yesterday the GP diagnosed an umbilical granuloma. It was treated with silver nitrate but it has started leaking again already. It is going to be treated again next week but I was wondering if anyone else had this and how long it took to go away. DD2 has been very unsettled the last few days so I'm wondering if this is the cause?

My dd2 had this, was due to be treated then ended up in hospital very ill with RSV - somehow, it cleared up on its own at that point. Not much help, sorry, but you're not alone...and from what the HV told me at the time, it can take a while to clear up. Have you seen the GP again since it started leaking again?

despite silver nitrate ds didn't go away and ended up with an operation (minor) when he was about 5 months.

all three of mine had these

I had to go to hospital for nitrate twice a week for about 3 weeks

leaking is normal - I would ask to go tot he hospital pead dept as they are much much better at doing it than gps IME

They all have lovely tummies now, just right for piercing in their teenage years

Thankyou, I'd never even heard of this until yesterday! I haven't spoken to my GP again as it was only treated yesterday. Today it looks the same as yesterday before treatment so I don't hold out much hope of the silver nitrate working next time either!
