What is wrong with me!?

I wasn't sure as to what topic to post this on. Hopefully, it will get some responses here. So, for as long as I can remember, I have struggled to process information. It's like my brain processing is very slow. Some days are better than others, but some days, it's awful, I can hear fine, but it seems that it takes a while for me to be able to process what has been said, same with reading, although it is worse with reading, I'll often have to go over the same sentence to make sense of it. It really is so frustrating, and it makes me feel incredibly stupid. Any idea why this could be? Am I really just stupid?

Has it always been like this, or something new?

Gingernaut · 07/11/2023 23:48

Look up Auditory Processing Disorder

It's not new but has worsened with age. I remember in school I'd often daydream, and I struggled to make sense of what the teachers were saying. I've been like it all my life 😔

What age are you? Often things like that can worsen in peri menopause eg adhd or autistic women that have been coping for years can really struggle when hormones start dropping.

Look up inattentive ADHD.

My child has adhd and autism. I guess it could be possible that it's adhd?

There's a Youtube channel called How to ADHD.
It's usually a help when people realise they might have it.

Difficulty staying zoomed in on a task, or else being hyper-focused on one thing.
Chronic procrastination, avoidance of mundane tasks due to interest being elsewhere (eg. house a bit untidy because the person is only interested in today's 'idea' or plan). Daydreaming, moving jobs or moving courses a lot, dropping out of college courses, etc.
Difficulty with emotions, hyper sensitivity to criticism leading to poor self esteem and difficulty proceeding in situations where they felt criticised.
When someone is talking to you, noticing you are not following what they are saying because an idea popped into your head and derailed your attention.
etc, etc.
