Hurt foot or bunion?

Mummaneedswine · 03/11/2023 15:02

A few days ago my first began hurting on the side and yesterday came up with a dark bruise. I can't remember hurting it but it has that sensation.

I've googled it and it says it could be a bunion but I never wear heels and it's not something that has gradually showed up over time. It just randomly was tender and swollen. I'm only 30. Does it look like a bunion?

Can you post a photo taken from above with your foot flat on the ground? Bunions are usually on the joint at the base of the big toe. Tbh that looks as though you've injured your foot by dropping something on it or banging it into something. Hard.

You do have a tailor's bunion/bunionette, but that shouldn't cause bruising like that. Are you sure you haven't caught/stubbed that toe in the last couple of days (I've done it so often I don't really clock it until I get a bruise!).

That bruise looks more like an injury. Do you have problems with your feet or find it difficult to get comfortable shoes that fit? Your toes do look a bit distorted.

Oh no :-( maybe I'm over reacting but this makes me feel so old.

Not that I can remember but I have a terrible memory

They've always slight bent inward

I know your post is from a year ago and this is likely a long shot, but whatever happened with your foot? You have the only pictures on the internet I could find of an injury that seems to match my wife's. She has a tailor's bunion and it is severely swollen and bruised like yours.

About 1.5 months ago my wife's foot did the same thing. It looked like it was broken and was bruised and swollen and it hurt a lot but she hadn't actually hurt her foot in any way. It just randomly appeared like that. After a couple of weeks she went to a doctor which confirmed that it wasn't broken or anything and then referred her to a podiatrist. By the time the podiatrist saw her it wasn't bruised anymore. They also confirmed it wasn't broken and that it was a bursa that had grown for whatever reason. They gave her a cortizone shot and told her to stay off her feet and wear wide-toed shoes. She went back and it was gone. A few weeks later and my wife was on her feet a lot one day for work and now her foot looks the same again. The podiatrist admitted her immediately this morning and saw the bruising this time and explained that the bursa had come back and it was pushing one of her foot veins into the bone and rubbing it until it burst, which is why she is getting all of the foot bruising.

He told her that she needs surgery for a tailor's bunionectomy & closing and a wedge osteotomy. They want to remove the bursa, shave off some of the bone bunion, then cut a wedge out of the bone to move the toe and then triple pin it in place.

Did you end up needing surgery or was there some other way you fixed your issue? Thanks!

Hi!
omg I have woken up today and my foot looks exactly like yours, maybe even worse! I was struggling to find any info what could cause this. Surgery?! I was thinking if I should see the doctor. What happened to yours in the end?

Kdrew · 30/03/2024 21:29

I definitely did not injure my foot in any way!

The original poster never responded back to me, but my wife is having surgery for this in 2 weeks.

How did your wife do with the surgery? I have this bruising without injury and wondered if surgery helped.

Not sure how I missed your message, but yes, my wife's surgery went well and it helped with the situation.

She's still healing and has some nerve issues since they have to cut into the foot and through nerves and all but it seems to be getting better over time. She definitely doesn't have swelling or bruising anymore, just random nerve pain now. They told her that it would take a year, possibly more, to get back to 100%. My wife just told me that she guesses that after about 6 months after her surgery she feels that maybe her foot is now around 65% or so back to "normal".

Hi I have this same problem, yesterday my foot started hurting randomly in this spot and I woke up this morning to the area bruised and swollen, I also did not do any sports, injure it, wear tight shoes or heels. I do have tight calf muscles though and I have foot problems where standing for over 5 minutes my feet throb. I’m only 25
