Thyroid blood tests and maintenance

Usually I’m underactive and take 100mcg Levothyroxine but 2 months ago blood test showed as overactive and I was changed to 75mcg.

A week ago I started feeling very thirsty and getting diarrhoea (my usual signs of overactive thyroid). Spoke to GP who agreed to put me on 50mcg without another blood test (her choice) but she won’t test for again for three months.

Surely your levels adjust faster than that? Don’t want to be in a situation where I suddenly become very underactive again. Don’t understand why they can’t test in 6 weeks’ time?

Should I try and get a private one where I’ll also get TSH results or just wait?

I'm being tested privately and it's still every couple of months as it takes that long for the adjustment to hit properly. Rubbish, I know!

Thank you.

Two months maybe, as I’ve read a fair bit that suggest 6 weeks between changes and tests, but three months seems excessive because you can feel quite bad by that point if your levels are off.

Maybe I’ll have to go private for the test to gauge it for myself.

I agree OP.

Mine is underactive and I used to have 6 weekly tests until they got the dosage under control.

Now it's every 3 months but yours doesn't sound under control.
