Take painkillers before hand.

Do try to get someone else to look after kids for the rest of the day.

I found it felt like quite bad period pains for most of the day. Buy in some some sanitary pads, as you will bleed for a few days and you can't wear tampons.

Other than that, its ok, it was over very quickly, and it was good to know it was all sorted out.

Don't let the Consultant guide you into a operating room that already has a gal up in stirrups with a big close-up of her fanjo on a tv screen.

The op was fine, a little uncomfortable, but over pretty quickly and my smears have been fine ever since. My main memory is of watching my knees shaking, I was only 21 or so at the time, I went on my own and didn't have any support, I had no real idea what was going to happen.

You'll be fine, try to relax, take a book and someone to cuddle afterwards, is possible.

Good luck, will be thinking about you.

I didn't know I was having mine done when I did, they did it at the same time as my colposcopy
I'd just say when they inject the local, make sure you breath, apart from that it's not too bad tbh. I felt a bit wibbly with the anaesthetic though, so try to take someone with you.

justwaterformethanks · 10/03/2008 13:18

Right so i will take a couple of paracetamol beforehand . I will remember to breath !!! I know im having this done in advance because i have CIN111 cells on my smear results ,so im having the colposcopy and then the hot cheesewire at the sametime ,so no beating about the bush Do you think i should get waxed before ,as my minky is in its winter coat !! or perhaps i could just bung the consultant a fiver and ask him to have a bash while hes down there. The worst part is the waiting 3-4 weeks for the results. Youd think they would have a fair idea of what sort of cells they are by looking at them under the microscope thingy .

I didn't see a consultant, just two colposcopy nurses, I imagine it's quite a common procedure.
Doesn't take long either, oh and get them to turn the camera away! I could see it on the screen which didn't help my wooziness.

justwaterformethanks · 10/03/2008 13:29

do they make you change into a gown or do you just take your bottem clothes off like with a smear ?

CoteDAzur · 10/03/2008 13:32

Make sure doctor sends the cut bit off to biopsy, which should show that all bad tissue has been removed.

VictorianSqualor · 10/03/2008 13:37

I wore a wrap dress so I just had to take my knickers off and pull my dress up, it was very much like a smear tbh.

Just laid on the bed, legs up and they put the metal duck thingy in and a little camera, put some iodine(?) or something like that on my cervix so they could see the cells then injected me two or three times, a really tiny injection, hurt less than a dentists one, and then did the loop thingy, which smelt weird but was over quite quickly.
Then I went home, was a bit crampy as I left and then had what I thought was weird black discharge for a while, apaprently that's normal though.

justwaterformethanks · 10/03/2008 19:16

Thanks victorian ,feeling very up and down about the whole thing tbh ,was hoping to start ttc and then got this news ,keep your fingers crossed for me . Its the results im panicking about more than anything ,having been through childbirth twice i think i can cope with the hot cheeswire malarky !!

FWIW, I'm now 36weeks pg.
I conceived my next cycle after the LEEP.
Try not to let that get you down.
I'd been trying for about 6months before, then enxt period WHAM VS was having another baby!
Apparently they recc you wait a while but when I told everyone docs/mw/cons etc about my LEEP they were fine, said it posed no real issue.

justwaterformethanks · 11/03/2008 08:58

Congratulations victorian ,were your smear results severe dyskaryosis too ? How long did it take for your results to come back ? 3-4 weeks seems like an awfully long time, i know i will be a nervous wreck until i know for certain im fine.

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 11/03/2008 12:28

CINIII was what they told me, it was my first ever smear and paniced the life out of me tbh!
It didn't take too long for them to come back but they said no cancer and then I had another smear during pregnancy which was all clear so hopefully it will be all you need too.

justwaterformethanks · 11/03/2008 15:17

cheers for all your help , hopefully all will be well and good and i will be buying baby clothes off you in the for sale section in months to come . Good luck with your birth/baby by the way .

Good luck justwaterformethanks.

I too fell pg the next month after the LEEP after trying for about 8 months before. Results came back in about 2 weeks I think Mine was also CIN III. Didn't have another smear until after DD was born, have had 2 more since then and both have been normal

AngeG · 11/03/2008 16:02

Sorry just re read that abd it didn't make sense. It should read 'Results came back in about 2 weeks I think. Mine was also CIN III.

justwaterformethanks · 12/03/2008 18:36

Thankyou Angeg ,all this is a massive help to my general state of mind ,well this and the wine

good luck for tomorrow

justwaterformethanks · 13/03/2008 17:38

thanks sparkly , i just want it over and done with ,i just need to keep sane while i wait for the results

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 13/03/2008 18:07

You'll likely be fine, try not to worry. The LEEP thingy just cuts off the bad cells which often dont come back so it's not as bad as it sounds.
I'll keep my fingers (legs?) crossed for you

justwaterformethanks · 14/03/2008 14:54

Well i have had the LEEP and i have to say that i wouldnt take it up as a hobby, but it wasnt half as bad a i expected and they said i could get the results a week on monday if i pop in ,so thats a relief .A big thankyou to you all for your words of advice and sympathy they really are very much appreciated.

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 14/03/2008 17:26

Not fun, but not terrible either really are they?
Be prepared for the horrid black discharge though, it scared me stupid!
