Amitriptyline withdrawal

Hello. I'm looking to hear from people who have stopped taking amitriptyline. I've been on it for two years for migraines (up to 30mg). It didn't help much and as my blood pressure is low GP recommended stopping it. I went down to 20mg around 6 months ago and then 10 mg two months ago. I stopped the 10mg a week ago (not realizing I should probably have gone down to 5mg and then 2.5mg). Since then I have been feeling nauseous and also have bad motion sickness when on my computer/ phone etc (I have always occasionally had this so am prone to it). Also have a tight forehead headache. Has anyone had similar symptoms when quitting and how long might I expect them to last? Thanks

I’ve been on amitriptyline for almost 10 years now, initially for anxiety but found it really helped with migraines. I was on 30mg and have cut down to 20mg but every time I drop down to 10mg, the headaches come back. I really want to stop taking it as it gives me constipation so what I’m doing now is filing a little bit off one of the tablets each night, gradually increasing how much I remove, hopefully that will work!

Cut down very ,very slowly, shave a bit off and do it over months rather than weeks.

I was on it for about 5/6 years, but only 10mg (so just one tablet) for migraines. i think I halved my dose, but I just really wanted to stop, so I didn't do it for long. I'm not sure if it was my low dose or what, but I didn't seem to get any side effects it didn't make me sleepy anymore and didn't really stop my migraines either and I gained so so much weight on them so I really had to stop.
It's been nearly 2 years off it now and been so much better off them.
Just chat with your doctor and sees how it goes.

I've been on them years.. First 10mg then 20mg, now 25mg.I've noticed when I try cut them down. I get the pain in spine and neck again..so I start them again.. I've noticed blood pressure had gone up since taking them. I want to cut down. Chemist says. Take one 6 nights a week Then the next take 5 and so on until you drop all together.. Let's know how you go on

I couldn’t get below 10mg, the headaches were too bad and just went back on 10

I went from 20mg to 10mg and then went cold turkey. It was pretty rough for a couple of weeks but the withdrawal convinced me that I didn't want to put all those chemicals into my body if this was how bad I felt stopping it. So I hung in there and I was fine after 2-3 weeks.

So it’s 10 nights out. The nausea has gone but still had screen/cyber sickness. I’ve been using some motion sickness herbal patches the last two days though and felt much better. Even slept last night without taking melatonin instead so hopefully it’s getting out of my system now. Headache has gone too.
agree with one of the posters that I prefer to get the drug out of my system as I think the side effects have been making my brain fog worse. M would definitely recommend to anyone trying to stop to reduce from 10mg gradually but cutting the tablet. I’ll probably stick the cold turkey out now though as hopefully I’m out of the worst of it.

Last night I decided to cut these tablets in half.. I took half of one and I slept better than I had for months, and months. Did my blood pressure this morning and it had gone down .. I too want to get these out of my system.. I sometimes walk around not on this earth.. I look spaced out. I'm only on 25mg.. Not any more.. Getting off it.. Cheers to all of us that are on these horrible tablets.that went to get rid of them. Have a good day guys x
