Tooth extraction complications

I had my tooth extracted on the 18th sept after 2 courses of antibiotics. I then had another course of antibiotics due to pus dis charging from the socket. After the last course of antibiotics I had 2 weeks of peace but now the socket has opened again and looks to be discharging pus, I have been put on more abx (a different type). I previously had osteomyelitis many years ago so my dentist is unsure if it is related and has urgently referred me to the dental surgeons to remove the infection which may have now gone to the bone. It’s been 3 wks since referral and I chased the hospital yesturday but I have not been triaged. The pain is agonising at times ☹️

Since I seem to be waiting indefinitely and no one is in any rush to see me I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences? I feel like I’m going a bit mad waiting.

Did your dentist refer you under the 2 week pathway or the routine referral system?
If it wasn't the 2 week referral ask them to rerefer you or they can call the On Call MaxFac.
If it's not responding to antibiotics I would recommend you go to A+E.

Hi millymolly it’s an urgent referral, the exact wording is “regular DERS including suspected cancer referrals” but no specific mention made of 2 week referral.

Spoke to my dentist on Monday and sent over a picture, was advised it is now out of his hands. He asked me to chase but when I spoke to hospital directly nothing has yet been done, the referral was sent 13th oct.

I’m seeing a specialist dentist that I was referred to back in feb re wisdom tooth removal tomorrow but I don’t think they will want to touch me until this is sorted but it will be interesting to get their take on it.

That sounds like a rubbish system if they haven even triaged a referral yet that also includes cancer referrals.
Is the specialist tomorrow hospital based or practice based? They can certainly have a look and advise. It may be the socket needs opening up again and cleaning out.
If they can't help call the hospital again see if you've been triaged yet and if nothing is happening I'd take yourself to A+E.
