Anyone know anything about feet?

I have posted about this a while ago but didn't get any replies but it's got a bit worse so trying again in the hope anyone has a clue what might be wrong with my poor old toe!

As you can see from the picture it is pretty swollen...it's been sore for a few months but in the last couple of weeks has become discoloured too and quite swollen. I tried ringing the GP but they're running an emergency only clinic until the end of next week.

DH says they'll just tell me to take ibuprofen and lose weight anyway which I am trying to do (lose weight that is) I'm just a bit concerned about the colour of it now and what on earth would be causing that. The pain is starting to extend into the arch of my foot and round my ankle.

You need to see a GP OP. It looks like it might be the start of cellulitis to me (not a GP or medical professional), you’ll need antibiotics if it is the case. Just to add: don’t worry about it, if it’s cellulitis it’s treatable. But I wouldn’t leave it any longer. I hope you get it sorted soon.

Possibly gout? It's mainly in the big toe joint but it can affect any joint in the body. It can last for weeks or months.

I agree with Purbal. You need to see a GP. It is an emergency because it’s getting worse.

Looks like either gout or you have fractured the toe. Needs medical attention asap go to walk in centreor A&E if u can’t get in at GP.

I have psoriatic arthritis and my toes have a tendency to do similar to this, it's called sausage toe. Gout can also look similar. I would absolutely go to your GP for this.

This is interesting- I do have psoriasis, have had it since my teens. What age did your arthritis start? I'm 38 now.

Thanks everyone, I feel justified in seeing the doctor now at least! I'll probably just wait until the normal clinic is up and running, I've lived with it this long. Although there is a minor injuries unit right by my house it's tempting to pop up there but I don't know if it would fit the remit as I haven't technically injured it.

@NCformyfootprobs mine started mid twenties. How are your nails? Do you get any pitting or ridges?

My GP was very dismissive of it as a possibility due to my age, so do push for a rheumatology appointment if it doesn't get better.
