Found breast lump

I have found a lump in left boob. Its very small sometimes cannot find it. Dr examined and said it feels like a duct and is happy to just wait and see if it goes. Googled and all I see is about blocked milk ducts but I am not pregnant or breastfeeding. Anyone know if a duct feels like a lump?

The lumps are milk ducts and tissues around them that have grown and widened to form cysts. These enlarge quickly in response to hormones released near your period. The lumps may be hard or rubbery and could feel like a single (large or small) lump

Thanks that is really helpful

OP, I'm sorry but I don't think that's acceptable. I was told by my practice that my lump was "almost certainly" a cyst and a referral wasn't necessary. I insisted. I had breast cancer. Please go back and ask for a referral under the two week guidelines. The chances of you not having it are high but a GP is not qualified to make that call.

Weirdly not long after I wrote this post she rang to say she was referring me for an ultrasound to check on it. Am now in full on panic mode.

Yes because guidelines state you should be referred. She has clearly had second thoughts. No point in panicking until you know what you're dealing with. 9/10 lumps are benign and the odds are greatly in your favour. So much better to get it checked out by those who know what they're looking for! Good luck!

Please don’t panic. Checked is better than 1 opinion with no other diagnostic tools.
Use this just as getting reassurance that your GP is correct but still good to get a further referral

Need to stay away from Dr Google as now in major panic mode as my lump is small and hard and not move able. I feel the anxiety has aged me 20 years since this morning.

@SunshineaftertheRai3 the odds are greatly in your favour. Only one lump in ten seen at the breast clinic is cancer. Keep off Google but the nhs site, the Macmillan site and breast cancer now are all safe and friendly to look at while you wait. Waiting is the hardest part honestly. You can always pop over to

It's sounds like a cyst and most likely is I've had many! I'm one of the lucky women blessed with cysty breasts! I will be going to the breast clinic for the third time next week. That being said I always go to the gp and they always refer me. Sometimes I leave it a month because they can disappear after a period and I've come to know what they feel like. It doesn't help that I've got very small breasts so lumps are more easy to find, the last time the doctor commented that if my breasts were bigger I probably wouldn't have even felt the lump, which I guess is actually a good thing!
It's hard not to worry but the appointment's ice had have been quick. Last time I had a scan and I asked her to look in the areas I usually find lumps and she could see lots of tiny cysts in those areas. She often to drain the cyst but they can often refill so I opted to leave it, that lump us still there now but it has shrunk. At least I know it's nothing to worry about

I had a lump my right breast and had it checked out. They take a sample of it to be tested. A little uncomfortable but overly quickly and it left a bruise for about a week. A lot of the time breast lumps are benign but I understand the initial worry, especially when it's the first time finding it.

Hi I know this threads old but how did you get on sunshine as I've got something similar went to docs yesterday said it feels like an inflamed milk duct she's has referee me to put my mind at rest xx

SunshineaftertheRai3 · 07/12/2023 06:58

It was nothing they had a feel but she couldn't feel anything of concern where I did just normal breast tissue and sent me for an ultrasound which came back fine. She just said our breasts can feel different at different times of the month so it's important to check at the same time every month if possible. But that its always good to get any changes checked out. Weirdly since I went it now doesn't feel as raised and lumpy as I thought it was before. I was very, nervous and anxious in the lead up to the appointment but was ok on the day.

Really pleased to hear this. It's ALWAYS the right thing to do to get any changes checked. So happy for you OP 🙂
