I have had some pain and discomfort around my ribs at the top right of my abdomen for some time now. I saw my doctor about it then largely forgot about it as just got used to it and got on with things. An appointment letter for an ultrasound came through for last week so I went along thinking it would probably be nothing. Since then it's been quite sore/uncomfortable again. My doctor's receptionist has contacted me to say the doctor now wants to call me on Wednesday next week to discuss the results. I know I'm asking the impossible really but has anyone got an idea why they would do this? It sounds to me like they've found something irregular and now I'm worried it could be gallbladder or cancer or something else. I know nobody on here has a crystal ball but any experience or thoughts would be helpful please. TIA.

A phone call next week does not suggest something awful. Generally the GP will ring ASAP, ime after surgery finishes for the day. So hopefully that puts your mind at rest a bit :)

However - if you're like me & anything other than immediate confirmation that everything is absolutely fine & normal leads to mild (sheer!) panic, I'd ring the surgery back & explain that you're panicking & a week is a long time so you need some reassurance.

It's not an unreasonable thing to ask, in my opinion.

Thank you. That does reassure me a bit and it's a good point that if they're willing to wait a week it probably isn't life threatening. I'm odd and while I am panicking part of me also likes the wait cos I can pretend everything's fine for a week while simultaneously panicking. Thank you for replying to me so quickly.

How are you doing OP? I hope your mind has put at rest

Thank you for checking on this. It is gallstones, inflammation on gallbladder lining as well as liver looking fatty on the scan. I'm awaiting surgery now but it'll be a long wait so going to adjust my diet while I wait. Just found out I'm pregnant with our 4th child too so adjusting to healthier eating is probably a good thing all round.
