Hi mums I know a lot of you won’t know but some might, so me 21 female is going through the process of getting esotropia surgery (meaning my eye turns out), I have my consultation mid November I’m just wondering if people know how long it usually is from the consultation until the actual operation , like could it be done for christmas I just need to know🙈
Thank you 💗x

Hi, It's actually an exotropia when one eye turns out.

It will vary with every single eye department, that said it's unlikely to be done before Christmas.

They may want to try Botox first to see if fixing it gives you double vision. If so that could mean surgery is a year away — they will want the Botox to have worn off before they do surgery.

It was 6 months from consultation to surgery for my 18 yr old DS. We are in Hampshire.

Can’t remember how long I had to wait, but less than 5 years on and rhe problem is back. They did say I might need repeated surgeries, but with visible scar on my eyeball, I don’t think I will bother again.

Thank you so much so not too long then really ... if you don't mind me asking has your daughters eye gone back straight or does she need another surgery?x

See I had the operation when I was really little and it worked for a few years but then when I was going into secondary school it started to go back out so I'm hoping it will be a success x

I wouldn't agree to that i'm too young to get Botox that's my personal opinion xx

OP you’re not too young. This is Botox into the muscles of your eye, not cosmetic Botox for wrinkles. It can be done on children.

Moorfields info on Botox for children.

OP it’s into the muscles on the outside of your eye, not into your eyeball. They’re very good at not showing the needle, and they use so many anaesthetic drops you don’t feel a thing. They can also use sedation as well. It’s something they may want to try to see how you’d cope with surgery.

My 5 year old has just had strabismus surgery and it was 1 year from being put on the list to surgery. It depends on the hospital you are at rather than being the same everywhere.

This is a second surgery but 13 years after the first. It's looking perfectly straight now though.
