Sharp pain in throat only at night

Since last Monday I developed sore throat but only in one tonsil and it’s sore mainly at night. A very sharp pain when swallowing.
During the day it seems subsided, but as soon I don’t talk for longer perio,or at night it’s back.
My throat looks same, no any swellings, or unusual redness- same as always, tonsils are small ( flat) and unnoticeable.
no any other symptoms.
Anyone has similar?
Im going on holiday abroad on Monday so I don’t know what to do.

I started taking antibiotics on Thursday-Doxycycline which I have as spare box as kept as emergency however I can’t see any improvement, usually these work for me immediately.

This might be completely off-base but have you looked into reflux? Mine gives me horrible and weird pain that I never would have attributed to reflux, and only at night. It even sometimes gives me sharp tooth ache. Just a thought because of the nighttime part.

I'm also going to suggest reflux. It can give you all the symptoms of a cold.

Yes I looked into it, as I have heartburn a bit this week before going sleep and also I can only sleep on my back and right side as of sore shoulder and the tonsil pain in mostly on the right side.
What would be the remedy in this? To soothe the throat if it’s from it?

I had similar a few years ago, only pain at night. It was strep throat, diagnosed after a throat swab was taken.

Gaviscon liquid or a ppi like lansoprazole or omeprazole. I think (not 100% sure) you can get omeprazole without a prescription.

@Thisismy3rdusername I am taking antibiotics which should work on strep too, however I can’t feel any relief at all, it seems actually more intense especially when swallowing, like a knife cutting in.

@AudiobookListener i have Omeprazole at home, as suffer occasionally from heartburn. What about the throat to soothe?
I tried salty water but it even makes it worse.

Take Gaviscon Advanced before bed (last thing that passes your lips) - it will act as a lid on top of your tummy to prevent reflux.

Enjoy your hols and if pain still there when you get back then go see your G.P.

edited to also suggest lifting your pillows a bit so you’re sleeping a bit more upright and no eating 3 hours before bed.

Could it be inflamed somewhere in your ear on that side?

So I’ve been to GP and she said it’s not sore enough for strep. I’ve had this 3-4 weeks now and my throat is so sore on the morning I can barely talk. She’s given me a reflux medication . I don’t know if it is that - wouldn’t I be able to tell if I had reflux coming up? I will take it anyway.

Interesting. Yes it’s definitely one side that is horrendous and not going away. Left side is constantly tender and sore. Right side sometimes joins in
