I have a very sore throat and ache all over and generally blocked head. I took a covid test which was negative and took a second which was also negative. I do not have a runny nose and I have a slight cough. I think I have just got some sort of virus but not covid as two tests were negative but I have had covid once before and I feel the same as I did when I had covid and tested positive.

I am taking strepsills for the throat which are doing me no godo whatoever. My throat is so sore I can hardly talk or swallow. I ache in places I never thught I could ache from my hands to my back to my arms and feet. I also have a constant headache but not the kind of throbbing headache, its more of a dull head. I have been off work since today (Thursday) and will be off work tomorrow. I generally work from home but feel too unwell to even do that even though I do not have to go anywhere. I have got the weekend and if i feel the same as I do now on Monday I think I will have to make a GP appointment to perhaps get some antibhiotics because over the counter remedies are not doing me the slightest good. Maybe I am too impatient but i thought with a cold I would be sneezing and blowing my nose but with me a cold starts with a sore throat and when that goes is when I start sneezing and get the runny eyes. I just dont get it, I feel as dreadful as I did when I had covid but my covid tests are not positive. A friend of mine suggested this could be because I have had either the flu jab or a covid booster and these jabs can make you feel unwell with these side effects but I have not had a covid booster or a flu jab so I am a bit baffled as to what this could be.

I do not think it is the flu because I do not have a temperature. I just want my life back.

Does it have to be anything? As in could it be that you're unwell and that's enough?
FWIW I currently have a very similar bug. I thought it was just a nasty cold and so am taking paracetamol for the aches. It's autumn, kids are back to school, the lurgy was due wasn't it?
It'll pass.
Do you have anybody to look after you whilst you feel so poorly?

I have just had a similar weird bug. It wasn’t exactly flu (fever not high enough and no shivering), but much worse than a cold. Tested negative for Covid three times. I think there are lots of random viruses going round in the winter.

Are you taking the strepsils in the silver boxes? They seem a lot stronger. Are you fully dosed up on Lemsips, etc, just to make yourself more comfortable?

For anything like a heavy cold, blocked up, at night you can put a thick layer of Vicks on the soles of your feet with socks over when you go to bed. It can help you sleep really well and get better a lot quicker. Sometimes it’s like a miracle cure 😊

Hope you’re feeling better soon OP.

Thanks no I am not taking those strepsills. I will get some though. I have been taking lemsip but i was advised that boiling water and a fresh lemon with some honey is better than lemsip,, As a child my mum used to make me drink it when I got a cold and I hated it. I am drinking plenty of water, cold milk, hot milk, tea to soothe the throat which does seem to work. I guesss I will just have to ride it out. I am also sleeping a lot as it makes me very tired

It took 5 days for our COVID tests to go positive here when we were ill last week (and mine only just registered positive)....

Hope you feel better soon x

tonsillitis?
I think there's just a lot going around at the moment, some is showing up as covid on tests and others seem to have the same symptoms that aren't. But ultimately it's probably a virus whether it's got a name and a test or not!

three covid tests all negative. I was starting to feel better. Aches and pains gone and sore throat gone. I went out earlier today to the local shops. The weather was not bad and only very slight rain. I felt ok. However since coming home my sore throat has come back and I can hardly swallow again. I deeply regret going out but I thokught I had recovered enough to do so.

I think it is time to visit the doctor and get some antibiotics, I just cannot deal with this anymore. This has been going on for 4 days now. I have not got tonsillitis because ive had my tonsils out. I am glad its not covid but I just want this sore throat to go away once and for all
