I had ten hours of open surgery last Monday and my god, I smell so weird? Its not a ME smell. It doesnt matter how much I wash, my sweat smells rank. Is this all the drugs etc coming out of my system? Its grossing me out.

Yes, probably: the chemicals used in anaesthesia do come out though your skin, a kind of unpleasant chemical-y smell. No idea if you can speed it up, I have only experienced it second hand ie DH

After DH had surgery I should have said..

I’ve had this with chemotherapy. The best thing is to drink lots of water and flush it out. Good luck with your recovery. Ten hours! Golly

Is it definitely sweat rather than an infection? When I smelt horrible a week after 10 hours of open surgery it was because my dressing changes had been missed over the weekend on a short-staffed ward and an infection had set in. I kept insisting that I stank and nobody was listening! Hope you have a smooth recovery OP.

It'll be the meds

I remember that smell after my daughter had ops when she was little. I can almost smell it now, I have such a strong aversion to it. I think it was the anaesthetic. It was the worst part of the operation for me. Even worse than the going to sleep.
