I had Glandular Fever when i was about 13yr.From what i remember i was very ill,doc was coming into me every day.My face swoll up and my tonsils were so big they were closing my air way and were white all over not just spots.I was close on being taking to hospital.I couldn't get out of bed i was so ill.I think i was ill in bed for about 3 weeks and it was months before i was fit enough to do PE at school.

If you are all still ill go back to your GP and get checked again.

I caught glandular fever a year and a bit ago and I havn't recovered yet. I just felt really tired and had slightly enlarged glands. Now I'm still really tired some of the time. I hope it's not this as it can be very bad. I hope you are all feeling better soon.

i got diagnosed with glandular fever last november and i am still trying to shake it off now i am having monthly blood test because it also can affect your liver badly and they have to monitor some levels in the liver and apparently so my gp said until these levels are back to normal you havent recovered from it even though you may feel better i went back to work last month but only do 3hrs a day as i still feel so tired from it i really hope you dont have it.

There is a blood test for glandular fever which will confirm diagnosis. My son had test twice last year but both were negative he had severe tonsilitus. You can still get bacterial throat infections even if you've had your tonsils out. I had glandular fever when i was at uni, it is awful. I missed 6 weeks of uni, it is the most ill I have ever been. Throat was so bad I couldn't swallow anything even saliva and it took months to fully recover. Hopefully you all just have a bad throat infection.

you can get tonsilitis in the 'stubs' that get left after the op. They can also re-grow , to a degree

The blood test is more liekly to show a positive a few weeks after the illness, immediate blood tests can come back negative

Oh I hope you're wrong about your diagnosis orinoco, I had it badly at 17, I missed four months of school, I was absolutely floored by it, had repercussions years later too (this is gross but I had 75 boils in one year which were apparently down to the impact glandular fever had had on my immune system!!! Yuk!)

Excuse thread hijack but hi Tjacksonpfc! How are things with you?

MrsMar · 12/03/2008 17:09

great to hear it orinoco. at getting tonisilitis with no tonsils.. I had to have mine out after I had glandular fever, and it's no fun having them out when you're 21, so to have gone through all that and still get it would really hack me off!
