Gallbladder pain?

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 22:08

I woke up at 3am with horrendous pain in the area in my photo. Horrible gnawing pain that made me double over. It took about 4 hours and a lot of codeine to ease it. It's now 10pm the next night and I have managed to eat a bit today but the pain is nagging again and my stomach is very very tender. I nearly hit the roof when dd pressed into it earlier.

Does this sound like it could be gallbladder related? Or anyone had anything similar?

My gallbladder pain was on my left hand side under my ribs.

pinkorchid1 · 15/10/2023 21:40

My gallbladder pain was around the area yours was (which led me to believe it was severe heartburn for ages) but would also radiate across my upper back. I'd often also felt quite nauseous. For me after a few hours of horrendous pain, it would dissipate very suddenly but would often feel a bit tender for a day or two after.

northernbird1988 · 15/10/2023 21:53

@pinkorchid1 this is exactly how I feel! The pain was horrendous for about 5 hours and ever since it's been like a pain that is coming in waves but it's so tender, my daughter was laid on my and pressed against my stomach and it was really sore. I wonder if it is gallbladder 😞

Weirdly my gallbladder flare's are upper right pain under my ribs? And confirmed by xray, ultrasound.

Have you seen anyone??

Marblessolveeverything · 15/10/2023 21:57

Mine was right upper sharps pain, like being cut by a knife, under the rib cage in the upper right side or center of the abdomen. It was accompanied by severe vomiting and diarrhoea.

Nothing touched it pain relief. Have had two children since without pain relief and it was a doodle comparatively.

Try keep your diet as far free as possible as that can trigger attacks.

100% this.

northernbird1988 · 15/10/2023 22:04

No I haven't seen anyone as it started about 5am on Saturday and I didn't want to go to a&e on a weekend so I've tried to ride it out with codeine and paracetamol. My sister had her gallbladder out which was who said maybe that's what it could be.
It's definitely central pain high up.. it feels like really severe, really painful hunger pains if that makes sense. I've not especially had nausea with it or a fever or anything x

My gallbladder pain was predominantly in the middle - felt like someone was sticking a red hot knife in and giving it a twist! Would also radiate to my right and round the back. Wouldn't have wished it on my worst enemy.

It would leave me vomiting and on my hands and knees rocking - nothing touched it. Very occasionally a hot water bottle would help me feel slightly more comfortable.

I cried with relief after I had my gallbladder removal earlier this year

My gallbladder problems gave me pain in my right side and felt like I was in labour.

I often felt faint during an attack.

One thing that helped me that was recommended by a dr was buscopan.

Verbena17 · 18/10/2023 00:02

I had gall bladder attacks - worse than any pain including childbirth.
Severe vomiting.
Only thing that stopped the pain (within 5 mins of taking, if taken at the start of an attack) was Diclofenac.

Until you figure out if it’s your Gb, cut out all saturated fats. It makes a huge difference.
Had my Gb removed - phew!

Einszwei · 18/10/2023 00:17

This is exactly where my gallbladder pain presented. Getting it removed was the only solution. (Also be wary of and medication containing codeine as this can induce painful epsiodes).

In4Ti33y · 18/10/2023 00:23

That's Pancreatic or duodenal or hiatis hernia gall bladder is right side under/below rib, go to doctors

In4Ti33y · 18/10/2023 00:31

With hunger pains, sounds like an ulcer, or it could be acid reflux, does it ease when you eat?
try not eating after 6pm, until you can see a doctor get some esomeprazole

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 18/10/2023 07:46

Actually mine was there, but if you call the GP they'll want to see you, because it isn't the usual place. They need to rule out heart attack. Also it's give on too long, which could indicate other gall bladder related complications.
Call your GP.

Hi OP
Hopefully you’re still on here! Just wondering if you managed to find out what it was in the end? I’ve got exactly the symptoms you described. The feeling of pain like severe hunger, right in the middle up top like you have circled.
I’d be so grateful if you could let me know if you ever found out what it was. Thank you x
