Ulcers found on colonoscopy

SB1712 · 11/10/2023 15:55

Just that really…

I had a colonoscopy earlier where a couple of ‘ superficial small ulcers’ were found as well as well as some patches of erythema.
Also a few small aphthous looking ulcers…

I asked if they were concerned and she said no, they took biopsies so I just have to wait.

I am a bit of a worrier and have some health anxiety. Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this, what it was and maybe what can I expect? Does this mean chrons/ colitis or maybe something more? She didn’t seemed concerned when I asked should I be worried she said no not at all. But alas…I am worrying.

Anyone? 🥹

It could be ulcerative colitis. Did they give you no diagnosis?

Tilllly · 11/10/2023 17:30

Do Not Worry!

Honestly, small ulcers like this are nothing, they may not even treat them

If they had even a tiny concern, you'd be on a treatment pathway before you could blink

Thank you so much for your replies 🙏🏼

They just said they have taken biopsies to rule out the likes of colitis/chrons, but it could be that. I asked about anything serious or should I worry and she said no. She said biopsy results will take 6-12 weeks and will go to a consultant to follow up on/with.
I am trying to stay calm, it says superficial and I’m just really hoping everything is okay.

Still a bit worried as I don’t have the classic signs of chrons or colitis as I suffer more with constipation 😞

Blimey, that's a long time for the biopsy results. The pathology lab at my hospital turns them around in three days.

Tilllly · 11/10/2023 20:58

What is that procedure where they put a camera up your bum? I had that earlier in the year, and ruled out the concern they were looking at but they did say I had some diverticulitis
But I don't know that I've got it and nobody has suggested any treatment
Just because something is found in a test doesn't mean to say it's not incidental

SB1712 · 11/10/2023 21:26

I would love to receive them sooner than that @MissConductUS but now will panic if I’m called earlier than what they’ve said!

I guess what I am asking is would they have told me if they saw something sinister? And can ulcers be something sinister?

My colon polyps histology takes 8 weeks.

My DH had a CT scan followed by a sigmoidoscopy where they took biopsies, he already has diverticulitis but the report showed possible IBD, the bowel screening unit rang him 10 days later to tell him that he has colitis and part of his bowel is very inflamed, but not ulcerative. He is now on medication following a phone call from the gastro unit. His follow up appointment with Consultant is in December. He was on a 2 week pathway but was taken off straight after his sigmoidoscopy. I must admit we are very pleased with the care he’s had. He was told to ring GP for them to be aware and to see him, but they were useless and said they couldn’t do anything until he’s seen the Consultant, but she referred him to get a face to face gastro appointment which has now come through for end of November. With his colitis when he has had flare ups he gets pain, constipation, watery poo and goes on a low fibre diet until it’s calmed down.

Did you get to the bottom of this OP?

Did you get to the bottom of this OP?

Sorry, this made me laugh.

Hope you're OK OP. I had polyps, Inflammation and erythema found on flexible sigmoidiscopy following up on colonoscopy and high resolution CT scan on 28 day pathway, but still waiting for biopsy results 11 weeks later so assuming all is OK.

This all started with a positive routine FIT test and CT scan showing issues in my abdomen next to the colon, right in the same area as the sigmoidiscopy findings.

No point worrying, it doesn't help anything or get results or answers any quicker.

SB1712 · 09/11/2023 08:08

No no news yet. They did say 6-12 weeks…and it’s been about 4 now.
I’ve tried to forget about it as much as I can for the moment and weirdly since the colonoscopy I’m suffering a bit less with constipation, not sure if there is a correlation there?

Did you get your results back?

I'm in same boat waiting on biopsiesConfused

Tilllly · 06/01/2024 08:43

@SB1712 any news?

SB1712 · 06/01/2024 08:56

None sadly. Still waiting to hear back and also for a follow up appointment to come through from the consultant to discuss results.
My colonoscopy was back in October and I can only hope it’s nothing too concerning or they would have been in touch by now.

I hope you get your results sooner than me, the waiting is the worst part.
