Horrible stomach bug - how to stop diarrhoea hurting so much on cut arse?

AngryBirdsNoMore · 09/10/2023 09:52

I’m in so much pain.

I am on the third day of shitting my guts out, and despite wiping gently, my arse is now bleeding and my anus is so, so sore.

I am sudocreming after each bowel movement but it doesn’t help during the actual poo. And I’m having movements 2-3 times every hour, sometimes more.

Can I do anything? Is there anything I can apply or eat or drink?

It is incredibly painful :(

I would get some anusol- it is amazing .

As for eating, I would have something really gentle. Make sure you drink plenty.

also, could be worth ringing GP to get a little advice if you are bleeding.

I hope you get over it soon.

Sudocrem should do the trick and just dab after you poo, don’t wipe x

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/10/2023 09:56

Witch hazel wipes

IAmHeartless · 09/10/2023 09:59

Buy the most expensive toilet paper you can. Even if it’s just for you. Put a Soline on your bum (acknowledge it’s ok it’ll make a mess) don’t use wet wipes they’ll sting like fuck. But washkets if needed are better. Flannels to wipe if you can wash them as reusable?

ZebraD · 09/10/2023 09:59

Anusol has lidocaine which will really help with the pain - much better than sudocrem!

saveforthat · 09/10/2023 10:00

You need to be really clean and dry before you apply sudocrem. Have you got any moist toilet tissue? In these situations I do dry tissue, moist tissue, dry tissue, sudocrem. Sadly I have a lot of experience with this.

endofthelinefinally · 09/10/2023 10:03

Anusol cream and wipes. Put the cream inside with the applicator and put loads of epaderm barrier ointment on the outside every time you go.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 09/10/2023 10:03

Dry tissue really hurts even to dab.

I think my husband has some anusol somewhere - I’ll dig it out, good tip, thank you.

im just drinking water but I am really hungry.

Bepanthen cream

AngryBirdsNoMore · 09/10/2023 10:04

I don’t even want to drink anything as I just don’t want to go. It’s more painful than bowel movements post childbirth, honestly.

Honestly - Do the sudecrem BEFORE so it forms a barrier - don't wipe - Jump straight in the shower to clean then sudocrem.

Sudocrem after will help but it doesn't form much of a barrier by the next time your going as it will have absorbed into the skin.

50lessfat · 09/10/2023 10:06

I don’t think Anusol is recommended for anal fissures I found Bepanthen better than sudocream as it lasts longer and was recommended to us by a hospital consultant.

vix3rd · 09/10/2023 10:07

Also if you eat it'll just make the Diarrhoea worse.

have you tried immodium ?

50lessfat · 09/10/2023 10:08

Bepanthen First Aid Cream is used for the treatment of: Superficial/minor wounds of any kind when there is a risk of infection: e.g. abrasions, small cuts, scratches, fissures, rhagades, mild burns, sores and ulcers.

TigerRag · 09/10/2023 10:08

Wet wipes

Do you apply sudocreme internally then?

I can’t get to a pharmacy as I can’t be away from the loo for that long, but I have wet wipes and anusol, I think also immodium.

immodium will just slow things down though? I’m on day three, I want it to just stop.

vix3rd · 09/10/2023 10:11

I absolutely would.

NoTouch · 09/10/2023 10:15

I have put wet wipes in the fridge before when my piles where playing up and it helped.

StBrides · 09/10/2023 10:16

Forget loo paper of any sort right now. Rinse after using the loo instead.

Cheap plastic measuring jug (or one from your kitchen you're happy to replace) and run water down yourself - homemade bidet if you like

Given that you have broken skin, ideally you should use cooled boiled water but this may not be practical so don't worry too much.

Gently pat dry or dry with a hairdryer on low and cool

An old home remedy that used to be used was to then apply egg white to the area & dry again with a hairdryer on low/cool. The protein heals the skin quickly and the white forms a film which acts as a barrier. Doctors don't recommend it now because they're concerned about possible bacteria but I know people who've used this technique with no problems and found it really effective. Up to you.

If you're hungry then eat - salty food, foods rich in magnesium and potassium are good. Only things easy to digest, avoid high fibre stuff. Banana, root veg soup, potatoes, white bread, crisps, jelly, ice cream, porridge, rice pudding...Get some rehydration salts and take them religiously.

You need to bring your electrolytes back into balance, once they're depleted it exacerbates the diarrhoea. Avoid caffeine and fizzy drink.

StBrides · 09/10/2023 10:18

Immodium slows down the gut motility which gives your bowel more time to absorb water, which decreases dehydration & diarrhoea. So take according to instructions.

Seriously though: rehydration salts are essential - either pharmacy own or diarolyte. They will really help.

No, don't apply anything internally.

StBrides · 09/10/2023 10:20

Oh and your husband can go to the pharamacy. Or if you have deliveroo, you might find diarolyte in the medicines section of a local supermarket and can have it and anything else you need delivered.

travailtotravel · 09/10/2023 10:21

Depends on the reqson for the episode - not eating is a good way to flush everything out but only works if you're also anle to drink enough. At this point 3 days in you'll be weak so flat coke or Sprite if yiu have it to replace salts and sugars, or electrolyte drinks if you have them in. If you eat, plain stuff only, dry bread or toast, rice is ok. Maybe plain boiled pasta. Really easy gentle food. At this point I'd recommend talking to your GP and asking for extra advice as 3 days like tha is a lot. It might be something that needs antibiotics to shift. Good luck!

AngryBirdsNoMore · 09/10/2023 10:23

Thank you everyone for all the advice. I was worried I’d be accused of being a poo troll and not taken seriously. All your messages are so helpful and kind.

I’ll see if a neighbour I know quite well can give me some diarolyte.
