Hi! How do I ask the doctors for a diabetes test?
I've been having a few symptoms over the past week that haven’t felt right.
I came back off holiday 4 days ago and since then I’ve not felt 100% got this achy tired feeling in the back of my eyes/head like a headache is about to come on, felt exhausted. Then I’ve been so thirsty like my tongue feels so dry no matter how much I drink. And yesterday my wee started to smell very strong I can’t describe the smell just doesn’t smell normal (sorry if tmi) I’m not having any pain when urinating though. The final thing is that when I finish work today my legs were so painful and achy.. ( I am a hairdresser but normally my legs don’t ache ) I’m not asking for a diagnosis obviously just wondering if these symptoms match up on other people experiences and is so how do I book in at the doctors?

I’m 25 5ft 2 8st 13 not overweight. I don’t put weight on no matter what I’m eating. Stay about the same weight. Never used to be like this would put weight on looking at cake.

If you go to the doctor they will be able to give you a urine test, you could also go to a pharmacy and buy a test to do at home.

@confusedanonn So I just say on the phone I’ve not been feeling right can I have a few tests?

Yes I would just explain how you have been feeling and I am sure the doctor would do a urine test. I would go sooner rather than later.

My son is diabetic, his signs were weeing a lot and drinking lots, he had lost weight over time, stomach aches.

Other than the raging thirst I've had none of those symptoms and am diabetic.

I'd ask the dr to run full bloods/urine tests.

@Lauren8642 have you been to the doctor's yet? I am having similar symptoms and wonder whether to go to the GP

Defiantlynot41 · 13/10/2023 11:57

@KylieKangaroo @Lauren8642 please see your GP. I think many pharmacists also offer tests, although if you are diabetic or pre diabetic you will then need to see your GP or practice

My first sign (diagnosed T1 in my 40s) was feeling hot, tired, thirsty and my eyesight went strange - the rest I put down to working hard and it was summer.
