Gastro issue after acute stress

I had a couple of very anxious days earlier this week to the point I barely ate or slept and was slightly hysterical. On day 3 it was confirmed there was nothing to worry about and I stopped feeling stressed but I had terrible stomach cramps all day whenever I ate.

Day 4 I woke up at 5am feeling so nauseous I spent the morning on the edge of vomiting🤢.

Since then once or twice a day my bowels make horrendous gurgling noises and I have to rush to the loo.

I have reflux too for the first time in my life. Otherwise feeling completely normal.

What's going on? Could this have been triggered by stress or is it a strange virus? I've had stomach bugs and food poisoning before and this is completely different.

I hope I haven't damaged my gut forever 😓

Stress. Don't underestimate the physical effects that stress amd anxiety can have on the body.

I had a similar stressful episode recently. I don't tend to get affected gastrically but I have got awful shoulder/neck ache, painful geographic tongue, pins and needles in one foot and massive eruption of eczema. I've had all of these before after a stressful event except the geographic tongue which is new.

Sorry you've suffered with stress too @Notcookie

It's crazy,it's a wake up call to get my anxiety under control. When I woke up after it was all sorted I joked to DH that I may have given myself a stomach ulcer as had a burning feeling. It's been getting worse since!

I've just bent over to pick up some of the kids toys and ended up with a mouthful of reflux. Vile. Hopefully it's not forever? I'm going to try to look after my mental health for sure.

I hope you feel better soon. I had to Google geographic tongue, what a strange thing!

Yes it can be triggered by stress. I had a cancer scare last year and the stress caused an upset tummy which lasted for months. If it goes on long enough the excess acid can cause gastritis (irritation) and you might need meds like Lanzoprazole to settle it down.

I get the same when I am stressed. You can buy omeprazole in boots, it used to be behind the counter but now it's on the shop floor. I take it for a couple of weeks when I feel symptoms starting.
