Effective alternative remedies / relief for chesty cough? Chinese maybe??

Have had appalling chesty cough for 3 weeks - DH (doctor) says it was pneumonia but nothing conventional is relieving / curing it - have had antibiotics and steroids, and also tried Covonia, codeine and an inhaler. NOTHING is working, I'm getting no sleep, coughing all night. I have had coughs like this before - have never found an alternative remedy that works - am open to suggestions of anything that GENUINELY WORKS.

Would consider consulting a homeopath or something but after this length of time I'm reluctant to spend the money in case the day I do, it starts to clear up on its own.

Franch, you should really see your gp again and ask for a sample to be sent to find out if your pneumonia is viral or bacterial and if it is bacterial then which antibiotic will be most effective. Also, have you had a nebuliser? if your gp won't help, seek help from another!

Thanks nicky, actually gp is fine and DH is looking after me as well - my chest is slowly starting to clear, I mainly just need some night-time relief and decided to go complementary

Potter's Vegetable Cough Remover never fails us - you can get it in Tesco. The herbs in it break the phelm, help you cough it up and help fight the infection. It tastes vile. Hope you have a good night and feel better soon.

There was something called Famel cough medicine years ago. Also vile but very effective. I don't know whether you can still get it.
