magnesium suphate paste and a plaster will 'draw' it out

Yep- magnesium, use it on our kids all the time.
They used to scream, no Daddy, stop it , you're hurting me no no every time they had a splinter, or we cut their nails... God it's amazing we weren't jailed.

Savlon or germolene and a plaster in our house

Thank you for your replies. I have never heard of magnesium sulphate. Does it come in a tube/bottle? I assume you can get it on boots?

comes in a tiny pot, ask over the counter. also think it's the same as epsom salts (someone mentioned on a thread a while back)

Is it the same as epsom salts?
Ours came in a little pot too. Pharmacist would know.....

When ds got a splinter in his foot, we couldn't get it out after much screaming (as per northernreg!)Doctor said its not their juridiction anymore so I had to go to A &E. I felt such a fraud but had no choice. Then they x-rayed it which made me cross as well, cos it was just a bit of wood. When we finally saw a doc. it took her 5 seconds to remove it with a scalpel. Unbelievable. Hope to god it never happens again!!

a little dab of any cooking oil will draw it out, it works
