Virus, covid or whooping cough?

Whatever it is Omicron in December was walk in a park in comparison.

Started 2 weeks ago with Tony bit of scratchy throat after my 1 year old brought home yet another nursery bug. Covid lft negative.

After a week a tickly cough appears and feeling more like classic cold. Little one seems happy but coughs now and then still. Covid test negative.

Now on week three - debilitating coughing fits (but no wheezing or whooping sound at the end) pretty much all day non stop. Blocked sinuses, blocked ear. Coughing greenish mucus up. Ribs hurt, abdo muscles hurt, cold medicine doesn't touch the side of throat and headache, and having to rely on nasal decongestant otherwise its completely grim.

I had whooping cough vaccine a year and a half ago when pregnant and LO had all his doses as per vaccination schedule.

Tried to avoid bothering GP with this but this is so unpleasant and exhausting, add the sleep deprivation in and I am feeling super sorry for myself.

Anyone else with something similar?

I had a lot of mucous when I had Covid. Hope you feel better soon :-(

We're all up as our son has some kind of nursery bug. The joys of winter!

Sounds very much like covid to me. I wouldn’t normally bother to test but I did this time out of curiosity (dh had been told by the hospital he had it when admitted for some thing else) and I feel like death. I have had covid twice now and it’s absolute hell. A test won’t tell you much anyway but if it is the vid - ibuprofen is best for bringing down a fever if you are ok to take it and vitamin D has been proven to be effective against covid too so may give you a little boost. Nasal sprays are helping me although I’m pregnant so can’t take anything else

kids tend to deal with illness’s very well. Wishing you both a speedy recovery

And it's not even cold yet! My son started nursery in August and we are on out fifth bug but it's the first one that completely floored me.

Ltfs keep bring negative though but I heard they could not.be as good for this new variant.

Thank you, I am so sorry to hear you have covid whilst pregnant, its like a double whammy.

I haven't got much of a fever, maximum 37,5 whereas with covid in December I was spiking 39

I'd definitely be contacting GP first thing for your little one as the cough doesn't sound good. Don't think your wasting their time, that's what they're there for. Hope you both get better soon 😊

Sounds very similar to mine. I'm finally going back to work tomorrow but still have a constant headache and tinnitus as well as a tickly cough and snotty nose. I have access to PCR tests so had one and it was negative.

PinkNailpolish · 04/10/2023 07:00

I've had bad colds like this before - debilitating cough and so much mucus. All you can do is wait it out. Hope you get better soon!

Wobblyheart · 04/10/2023 10:23

Thanks all, LO is better than me so GP for me today and I will see how he is tomorrow!

So the GP thinks most likely it's viral, chest clear. So waiting to see how it will be for the next couple of days , if no better antibiotics.

I am going to buy another brand of covid test tonsee if that makes any difference.

Thanks all and get well everyone who is also suffering at the moment.

I was really bad recently, started with a sore throat, then came the cold, burning up, aching all over, shivering, then cough appeared. I felt like I couldn't put one foot in front of the other. Lasted about a week. Not covid, tested as work wanted to know. Just another nasty virus, there's a lot going about.

Tanfastic · 04/10/2023 21:56

I'll be honest, I've had covid once before and it wasn't as bad as this but the symptoms were very similar.

Blinky21 · 05/10/2023 00:47

I've had a cough for over a month, I've never had a bad cough before and this floored me. Was diagnosed as viral bronchitis. However after 3 weeks they gave me antibiotics, which did nothing. After 4 they suspected pneumonia and sent me to A&E for xrays, which were clear. After 5 I'm a bit better, but not well. Also have runny nose, various weird aches and pains in legs and back and a headache. I've done 4 covid tests, all negative and no one else in my house is ill

Wobblyheart · 05/10/2023 17:12

@Blinky21 , @Tanfastic I sympathise! And sounds very similar. My friend just told me thy have just started to recover from theirs two adults three kids been ill for over a week and a half . Covid tests from different brands all negative
