Concerned about blood in poo

For the past few weeks I have become concerned about some symptoms I'll list below.

  • Dark red blood in poo.
  • mild nausea
  • sometimes feel a mild burning pain on right side.
  • loose stools at times and sometimes an urgency to go.

That's it no other pain before, during or after. No evidence of piles or fissure or anything. However the blood appeared quite a lot and has frightened me with how dark it was. I have a GP appointment later. Any idea what it could be or what to look for?

Hope your appointment went ok. Have you got a follow up?

Thanks for the reply. The GP took onboard my symptoms and completed an examination. No lumps or anything felt. I had bloods taken and also have to do samples the QFIT and 3 other stool tests. Once I drop them back results take 1 week then we go from there basically. Hoping I can complete them and drop them in tomorrow to be sent.

The nausea and upset tummy could just be anxiety because you’re worried. The blood needs investigating but that’s probably the only symptom the doctor has any concern about. And it doesn’t always mean something bad, my DM had similar and it was nothing really.

@Kaill thanks for your reply, the nausea came before any bleeding started. It's very mild nausea but feels odd. Also in regards to an upset tummy I don't feel like I have an upset tummy. Even before a loose or runny stool there is no cramps or pain or anything like you would expect. I have never ever had any bowel issues before I don't ever recall even being constipated in my life. Glad your mums results turned out ok.

I feel ok that the GP is testing, I'm calm now.

DS has recently been diagnosed with IBD which in his case is colitis. He was having some similar symptoms and after stool tests, blood tests and a colonoscopy it was diagnosed. He's now on medication which seems to be helping which is good.
