Nail surgery - Phenol flare pain

Hi my partner had both his big toenails removed due to a persistent fungal infection. This was 5 weeks ago now. He has had awful pain since then on top of the wound and inside his toe. There is no infection (swabs have been taken) this pain is on both sides. He is still dressing the wound on the advice of podiatry and they said the pain is something called phenol flare caused by the chemical they use to prevent the nails growing back. He's so uncomfortable and constantly using pain killers which only take the edge of it. They've said only time will help. We are going to Disneyland Paris next week and worried how he'll cope! Has anyone experienced this and did anything at all help? Willing to go down private route if there is anything that can be of benefit.
