Hi all. Got bitten by some kind of bug about 3 weeks ago. A few days later I woke up and my calf was very swollen and red. Went to hospital and was told it was cellulitis and given antibiotics. Swelling improved but leg was still very red and sore so went back to GP a week later, told antibiotics weren't working and prescribed another.

We're now a week after that and same thing has happened. Leg is still red and painful so back to GP and given yet another antibiotic and also a steroid cream. I've been told that if it doesn't improve by Friday or I start to feel ill I will need to be admitted to hospital 😅 Thankfully throughout this I've felt fine, no fever or feeling unwell.

Totally fed up now though. I've had to be signed off work because my job is very active and there's no way I can stand up on an infected leg for 8 hours!

Is this usual for cellulitis?

For cellulitis, you need hard core antibiotics like Flucloxacillin. The other stuff wont touch it.

My DH has just got home from his 9th daily hospital visit for IV antibiotics for the exact same thing. They started him on a loaded dose too. They've been doing bloods every couple of days and the infection is settling, but they won't let him go to oral only until it's much more improved. The original doctor did say it was very bad and could take a while to improve so possibly a worse case. Hope you feel better soon OP.

@VestPantsandSocks that was the first one they prescribed. Didn't work.
