Gastroscopy question

This may be unanswerable but...

If I'm scheduled for a gastroscopy st 9am and have sedation, will I be up to going to a big gig in the evening? 😂

Gigs I have done many times, gastroscopies never!

I will be taking ALL the sedation!

Everyone reacts differently.
They use short acting sedation, so you may feel “hung over” and a bit rough but it’s one of them. .. see how you go.

Which gig are you going to? 😃

You shouldn’t drive or drink the same day. Have the throat spray and enjoy the rest of your day!

Absolutely do NOT skip the sedation! Grim.
you’ll probably feel fairly wiped but you should be fine to go.

I did kind of suspect it was a see how you go kind of thing but just wanted to check it wasn't a definite no.

I don't drink alcohol or drive so no worries there.

You can feel rough after sedation for up to 24 hours. I’ve had gastroscopy twice with just the throat spray and it was an unpleasant five minutes, but totally bearable, and no after effects other than a sore throat.

I found the sedation really wanky - it was conscious sedation and I remembered everything and felt everything. Tbf though I was having gastro and colon in the same appt. I was not groggy afterwards. Just very farty 😂

Re the gastro: take the throat spray. Your throat will be sore after so you will probably not be up to singing along! Avoid alcohol.

the gastroscope was unpleasant in the fact that your natural instinct is to try and fight it so it’s a bit grim. But it’s not that bad. If I’d just had the gastroscope I personally would have felt okay going to a gig but that’s my personal opinion.

Damn I want the forgetting kind of sedation!

I've had that for colonoscopies before. There was one where I found myself in recovery completely non gassy, it had completely gone but no memory at all of any farting 😂😂

Yeah - I mean it’s hard to say because we don’t know what kinda sedation they will use and Everyone’s different too. I wouldn’t have been up to going out after mine cos of the colonoscopy- I found it very very painful for a good few days as they really went to town trying to get the camera round. But apart from a sore throat the gastro was fine afterwards and If I’d just had that I think I would have been okay going to a gig.

maybe just have a contingency plan? X

Just to update, sedation was amazing and I remember nothing 😂
I think I was very deeply asleep afterwards and it took them ages to wake me up!

I was really groggy after that, and when I tried eating something I had bad stomach ache. So I slept most of the day and didn't go to the gig but it was ok because I'd seen them the night before too

Throat spray was quite disgusting 😂
Didn't feel as bad as they were telling me it would though. After that...😴😴😴
