Hi there,
My dad has had some worrying symptoms. He went for a CT scan two weeks ago. Today he got a call from the hospital receptionist asking him to come in for a MRI scan tomorrow or Wednesday, no further information. Does this definitely mean the CT scan has picked up something? So worried for him. If anyone can shed any light on the normal process and what this means, that would be so helpful.
TIA
x

Hi I'm not a doctor, but I have regular 6 monthly MRI scans. The process started with a CT scan, followed by a call from the GP a week later saying they'd found something and I needed an MRI. So it may be a good sign that your father hasn't been told anything definite and it could be they're just ruling things out - I hope so.

Hello, thanks so much for your reply. Were you ultimately diagnosed with cancer ? I’m wondering why some need and MRI as well to diagnose ?

Hi Radiographer here, not necessarily anything to worry about. MRI is better at seeing some.pathologies than CT scans so maybe just getting some more info.
Conversely something unrelated may have been seen on the CT that needs more clarification. For example a friend of mines dad had a chest scan to rule out lung cancer (it did) but they saw something on his pancreas, had a MRI which confirmed the pancreas lesion was nothing to worry about.
Hard to speculate without knowing what scan your dad had, but try not to worry, hard I know xx
