Blood test results

How do you get the results of a blood test your GP arranged?

I have never seen the results - usually the receptionist says everything is fine and that's it.

It was a menopause, fatigue, brain fog phone consultant with the GP which led to her sending me the paperwork for a test

In this case I'd make another appointment to see the GP to discuss the results - perimenopause isn't always indicated on blood tests and they should offer HRT on the basis of symptoms. So even if you're told the results are all "fine" you need to discuss HRT with the GP.

@LonelyFlans

I was prescribed HRT on the same phone call - I think there will automatically be a review call at 3 months as that's the length of the prescription. I just wondered if I could ask them to just email/post the blood results to me - I flagged low testosterone matching all my symptoms so.im hoping that the tests will have included that.

Nhs app? Our surgery won't give over the phone but you can collect in person on request.

Cotswoldmama · 23/09/2023 12:07

You need to set up online access then you can see all your results. I work as a receptionist at a doctor's surgery and we are allowed to let you know if they are satisfactory etc, no further action but we can't go into details. You can however see them if you have online access. At my surgery we ask you to come in with photo ID to set you up or we can do it over the phone if you have your NHS number and don't mind answering some personal questions to confirm your identity. You can come in with ID and ask us to print them out for you as well.

I can see my results on the NHS app.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 23/09/2023 12:39

@PortalooSunset I had a look on the app but I can't tell where I would look or if that only becomes obvious if the results are there - does a new tab or page appear?

@Cotswoldmama thank you - I'll contact the surgery via askmygp and see if my surgery will do this too. Usually results get lost - the last set of blood tests I had didn't materialise....

@Rainsdropskeepfalling from the app homepage click "view your GP health record", click ok to the warning and then you should get a list, medications, test results, consultations and documents. Click on the test results and the latest ones should display.

You have to have given permission though, can't remember if I did that through the app or by speaking to GP reception.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 23/09/2023 15:57

@PortalooSunset thank you.

It looks like I need to request access so I'll do that. Annoyingly the askmygp app doesn't open until 6am on Monday so you can't email just any time with low priority questions, and I don't like to ring them because (a) the line is always busy and (b) they encourage those with the internet to use the website instead
