Fingernail infection

A few weeks ago, my daughter (7) had a fingernail infection at the side of her finger that seemed to go away initially with salt water soaks and fuscidin cream. It had a blister form, which popped and healed. But it's back and now more around the bottom of the nail and some parts of the nail look white. There's a sore red swollen area all round the base of the nail. We've been using the same method now for about a week with no real improvement. Is it time to go back to the gp and try something else? Or can these things take a long time to heal? It seemed to improve much quicker last time.
