Lump

Looking for reassurance I suppose, I've had breast pain in 1 breast on one side, a sort of shooting prickly horrible pain that goes into my nipple. This has been going on for 3 months so 3 period cycles, I left it this long incase its hormonal. I then found a small lump just above the nipple. I visited my GP who did the 2ww for breast clinic and my appointment is this Saturday. I'm only 29 however my Nan did have breast cancer also. Of course it could be fibroadenoma just looking for anyone who's had similar for reassurance. Thanks x

Hello, I can appreciate its worrying. Do you have any appointments coming up?

SJP306 · 17/09/2023 18:36

I have my referral appointment this Saturday at the breast clinic, I'm assuming I'll have an ultrasound with my age but not entirely sure.

So, I recently went through 2ww. I did have a small bc which I've just been successfully operated on for. Awaiting radio therapy and tamoxifen.

I'll just tell you the system and stages as i think it would have been helpful to know what could happen?

I had a mammogram. I'm under screening age. I did have a couple of suspicious areas so they immediately did ultra sounds and biopsies. They also put small metal markers in to where the sites were and I had another mammogram to check they were in the right place. You have local anaesthetic. Where I am It's all extremely fast in one place and time.

So that was a bit of a jolt and shock but they are extremely thorough and would do that for fibroadenoma, I later found out.

Then a couple of weeks later I had the results meeting.

I was also then referred for an MRI as being young my breasts are dense. This showed another area on the right side and I had to have more biopsies there. Then a couple of weeks later a final appointment for last results and I was given a plan.

I think I'd assume it's a cyst or similar but be prepared for biopsies etc. perhaps have someone with you too.

I hope all is well

Thats really helpful thankyou, been unsure because of my age what will happen. Hope you're on the mend soon and everything goes as well as it can x

Yes thank you I'm (currently apparently) cancer free!

I do think it is likely to be a mammogram but obviously I'm not a breast specialist! From what I've learnt - it's actually sometimes harder to see into younger women's breasts accurately so this may mean biopsies and markers and MRIs simply because they need to be thorough to be sure if that makes sense?

So try not to panic if they do.
If it is the worst case scenario there are lots of supportive people here and Liz ORiordan is a really good source of info on Instagram, as is the charity breast cancer now. And the BC nurses are amazing! Liz wrote a good book and recommends some others around exercising.

That's fantastic to hear! Lots of helpful information thankyou. I know deep down it'll most likely be a cyst or fibroadenoma but can't help that niggling in the back of my mind also! Do you mind answering if you had any pain?x

I did actually but I was on hrt and had changed it. And I'm still not clear if it was related. Was told twice it wasn't related but they did take the area out. But pathology said it was just fibroadenoma. I had another small cancer which was what the actual surgery was for. I often found the communication for what they were a bit confusing.

Sorry that doesn't really help!

A fibroadenoma they found on the right via MRI and biopsy definitely wasn't taken out.

SJP306 · 17/09/2023 19:35

You've been extremely helpful! Thankyou so much x

Going through similar yet haven’t seen my GP as of yet - saw a care doc this eve who couldn’t feel my lump though but I can see slight skin dimple around where i can see so I’m going to go down to my Gp tomorrow and demand an appt & then referral. I’m freaking out :(

cathcath2 · 17/09/2023 23:21

I had very similar when I was 28. They did an ultrasound and a biopsy. They diagnosed fibroadenoma. It's scary but best to be sure. Good luck.

SJP306 · 18/09/2023 07:22

I have just had something like thsi. I'm 33. I had pain (which two GPS and the consultant said was a good sign!) and a lump. Turned out to just be lumpy breast tissue that my bra was irritating and hormonal. It is worrying but remember 9/10 lumps are nothing to worry about.

Healthfreak95 · 18/09/2023 07:53

What did your guys lumps feel like?

SJP306 · 18/09/2023 08:17

Mines sort of "shelf like" above my nipple very easy to feel x

Healthfreak95 · 18/09/2023 10:46

SJP306 · 18/09/2023 14:42

@Healthfreak95 I'll update on Saturday after my appointment x
