Hysterectomy recovery

I had my hysterectomy last Wednesday and because I didn’t come round properly from anaesthesia stayed in for an extra night. I was in for 2 nights drugged up to the eyeballs. Then at 7:30am as told off you pop home. I had laparoscopic surgery and everything was removed.

I am not taking painkillers as I just feel heavy and bloated. I had a poo on day 3 but now feel really constipated and can’t poo. When I do it hurts my lower tummy. I’ve had prune juice, drank loads, done knees up and walked about. But Christ I feel like if I do pop I’d be okay and more comfortable.

Movical? Doesn’t work, anything else? Maybe something I can get my OH to buy?

Also, what the hell is with the random crying? I started HRT before my op and then dropped to one part. Do I need more?

I am so tired and bored too. Finished my Netflix series in a day.

Hi
How are you doing?
I haven't had a hysterectomy, but hoping for one, due to a fibroid ruining my life.

Have you tried fruit and fibres digestion health cubes from Holland and Barrett. You take one each evening with water; they are pretty good. I'm taking them due to the fibroid pressing on my bowel.

Also, pears, prunes, kiwi, mango - they are all good at getting things moving. Drink loads of water and fresh orange juice.

Chewing gum might help?
Sugar free sweets ?

Your hormones could be all over that place; maybe you need to increase your HRT. I'm assuming you need oestrogen only now?

I think recovery can take weeks. Be gentle with yourself, it's major surgery! 🌺

Thank you, I will try the Holland and Barrett things. I have a basket of random stuff so will add it.

my surgeon said, go home do things normally but don’t overdo it. You’ll be okay in a couple of weeks. Nurse was quite stern and said ah nope 6 weeks min.

Hi, I had one 5 years ago, I didn't go for a poo till day 7 and that was after 3 days of laxatives and then it was a few more days before I went again. I think this is normal after abdominal surgery but I didn't have a laparoscopic one as my womb and fibroids were to large. I was also quite emotional but it all settled down after about 3 weeks Speak to your GP if your unsure about anything.
